Re-tool post Lou
That is a little light to take on 2 years remaining on Lee. Moving up 2 (or maybe only one spot if Vegas makes the conference finals) added to a late 2nd gives you a net of the #43 pick which again is not enough. Think that Lee contract needs to come with a pair of 2nds attached to it.
I think an expanded deal involving one of DuFour, Holmstrom, or Wahlstrom for an excess LHD prospect from the Hawks among Phillips, Allen, DelMastro, or Kaiser might make sense for both sides. Hawks have more NHL ready LHD than spots in the NHL lineup and need some NHL ready forwards with a little size to them.

Need to spend about another $20m just to hit the cap floor. And this team probably doesn't make the playoffs.

This is my thought as well. Top organization and gets a bit of term heading into season 19 at age 36

That whole ordeal made no sense for either side. Why did PIT hire Dubas, and why did he accept the job? Dumb.

2025 hawks
This roster isn't any better than what the Hawks have now. Addison is a huge downgrade from Murphy. That 2nd D pair might set a record for worst +/- ever! Stauber is no better than Soderblom. The only trade that's realistic is Blackwell for a 5th. That return on Murphy is terrible. Nobody is paying a 1st and a 2nd for Reichel and Raddysh.

Hawks aren't taking this direction, that has been clear from Kyle Davidson in recent interviews. Nor is Schmaltz, who can't stay healthy, worth that. Great when on the ice, but hasn't played a full season in 7 years.

Way to sell him on the Hawks fans here. Hawks would be more likely to use picks at draft to trade up to get the player they covet.

Hawks decline. Reaves costs that 3rd just to dump. No chance the Leafs get either Katchouk or Megna, let alone both.

Very unlikely. Would be different if he fills an open space on the roster and there is a chance to play him every game, boost his value and flip him at the deadline with 50% retention but in this case, the last thing we need is another LHD guy

Hawks pass. They aren't taking a $6M cap hit for a 4th and 2nd at a position they already have a logjam of young players and prospects

Right. He's asking for our best young defenseman AND a 3rd for a sack of beans.

lol. Cool then, keep him. I don't know why you are so upset about this and why you and so many other people refuse to see trades from CHI's perspective. What point is there to CHI going for short term improvements and buying veterans that have no place in CHI's future? Good or not, we have no need for Orlov. He would just create an unnecessary road block for our young LHD. Even if he would be our "best dman," we would be arbitrarily improving our position in the standings for someone that isn't going to be here long term, while also giving up valuable draft capital. If you don't see how that makes zero sense for CHI, I don't know what to tell you.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Right, because they have done so well in the NHL this year. The Hawks still need to ice a watchable product, which they haven't been. Orlov, who can play both sides, once again, instantly becomes not only the Hawks best defenseman, but a deadline trade chip. Saying "they need the slot for the young guys" just doesn't make sense. Even rebuilding teams need veterans.</div></div>
Probably a much better move for the Hawks to use that $7.7m in cap space for a vet RW to play on Bedard's line...

Great defensively is overreaching. He's done better defensively but he's hardly great.

If the Hawks are even willing to pay what's likely an early 3rd for Kuzmenko, there's no way they include Crevier too. Crevier is looking like a steal as a 7th rounder, and Hawks aren't trading away one of the two RD prospects they have.
