No way Minnesota even considers this deal. The return would probably piss Leaf's fan off.

In the name of Research
I love these posts! Teams trying to get creative and we get to have a conversation about it. Realistically Wallstedt doesn't move without a pretty big overpayment. A few things come into play here. First, Minnesota has beyond zero cap space. Dumb but the reality. This means Wallstedt is pretty important moving forward for us because we got this year plus 2 more years of this cap hell. Lastly, what do we need? Center has been our weak point, but Rossi looks to be a player which changes things a bit. Sorry for the rant but this trade gets tricky.
I think the Wild want top end talent. So quality over quantity. Both Hughes are off limits. Hischier is probably close to that. My thoughts are Holtz, Mercer, Nemec and first rounders are the pool to pick from.
Holtz - Can he be a consistent player and can he reach 90% of what people think he can be? I don't know much about this player but I know he was untouchable for Fiala a year and a half ago. Now it feels like he lost some luster. Looking at future lines for the Wild, I see Kaprizov and Boldy on that top line. So could Holtz be the driver on a second line with Ek or Rossi?
Mercer - Not sure where he fits in with the current lineup. Not saying he wouldn't get the respect to make room. But Hartman and Ek seem to be locked in at the 1/2c. Rossi has been locked in at 3c and looks great so far this year. So maybe Mercer slides to the wing. I could see him taking JoJo's spot with Boldy and Ek. Not sure if I love this move on its own. But could be a start of a trade.
Nemec - I think the fit ans timing isn't there for the Wild without a Spurgeon trade. Spurgeon is locked up for 3 more years after this one. And Faber is looking like a beast.
So back to what does a trade look like. I think Holtz and a First maybe a bit more. Holtz have some question marks currently but out of the 3 options he would have to be the one unless the Wild can swing a Spurgeon trade that benefits us. Ultimately no trade happens with Wallstedt and we see if he will be as good as advertised. Great post

It cracks me up when people talk about a top 2 pick being worth the world. Take this trade that was debated on Skor North a few days ago. Kaprizov for Bedard. Would you do it? First off it wouldn't be offered that way. Second, like Lafreniere, there is a bust factor to these kids. Not calling Bedard a bust but picks don't equal players. The second overall isn't worth Kaprizov because Fantilli may never pan out to equal Kaprizov production. I can't stand doing trades on here because there's too much uncertainty. Was Kevin Fiala worth the number 2 last year? Probably. We don't know what Nemec will be but Fiala's production probably outweighs most prospects out there. Just my 2 cents

Veterans like Jon merrill, and Zuccarello do no wrong. Dean Evason is a big issue</div></div>
I agree, I highly question his ability to help develop the young guys and bring them up correctly. In my opinion, Kaprizov and Zucc should be able to carry a line and allow Rossi to play freely. I look at the Stars who have Johnston playing so well. Our vets don't enable the young guys and cover up for any of their mistakes. It either a player issue or coaching issue. And I lean towards coaching.

I think somewhere like a 2nd and 5th. Doesn't have to be same year but I see his value as higher than Greenway's. This is the same value Greenway got. We don't need to trade Foligno and he's coming off his worst year in 3 years so the value is poor if you only look at this year. I think he could get a 2nd and 3rd maybe 2x2nd's if the team loves him and could extend him. Looking at a 3 year average. He will get 41 points, 119 PIM, 18% shooting %, 269 hits and 46 blocks. Brings leadership and has worn the A for 2 years now. He is a perfect playoff type player on the 3rd line

As a Wild fan we will easily pass. Other teams are offering way more. He could fit in the leadership for you but it just isn't enough. Greenway got more than that and Foligno brings leadership, toughness and typically more scoring.

I was thinking the same thing. If we were offered Quinn and a 1st I'd be begging Spurgeon to waive. Look hes a captain, great player and does a lot of things for this roster. Give him the love for that. But he's also been here for 10 years and gets grouped in with the old regime. Not saying he isn't worth the contract or hes a crap player but the Wild do need to move on from certain players. Is he one of them? I don't know but people gotta recognize that he's been here for 7 straight first round exits. Time for tough decisions.

Thoughts on this trade
So many others hit it on the head. Minnesota wouldn't consider this trade. If I'm being honest, the cap hit going out has to be more than the cap hit coming in at the moment. No offense, but there aren't many options for the Leafs and Wild to make a trade happen. It would have to be equal money going out or you would have to retain more than we can take on. We have $14.7 million in dead cap space this year and next with the buyouts. So it has to be equal money trades. If you want Hartman it's picks coming back or Knies. Anything over 1.7 million just doesn't work for us unfortunately. Robertson I don't see being brought here due to size and roster slotting. I just don't see a lot making sense here.

If that is the going rate for Bedard. Is there a comp the Wild can create to secure Bedard? 2 First Rounders. Wild might have a better picks due to the cap restrictions. Rossi would be our Perfetti comp. In terms of Connor, the Wild don't have that piece. Boldy might be a close comp. Kaprizov is a much better player than Connor. We also have a better prospect pool so maybe Chicago would want to tap into that pool in terms of a return for Bedard? I would consider Wallstedt if we think GusBus is the goalie for us for the next 10 years. It looks like he is that player. I have no issues with the 2 first rounds, rossi and another piece but it depends on the piece. Maybe the other fans have thoughts? There is beyond a 0% chance this pick is traded. I just appreciate the thread and hypothetical!

AS a Wild fan I've been interested in Turcotte as a player for the Wild. We have needs at center and you are stacked up the middle. What would fans want in a return for Turcotte? I know he's had injuries but he was the 5th overall pick there is talent there, not sure if he gets a true look when you have a HOF Kopitar, Danault on a massive contract and Byfield who has the potential to be a franchise center. Maybe a fresh start helps him get his confidence back as well?

The 1st will be lower in the draft, Raty is a better prospect than Ostlund and AB is just under a half point per game player. The Canucks got much more than this and they should have for Horvat. What do you suggest the trade be. I can give you links to experts that do this for a living and are smarter than you and I combine when it comes to hockey that says that Buffalo is interested in Dumba. So make a proposal to me and see where it goes. I think Caerii was closest on their trade proposal which is a proected 1st and a prospect like Bloom or Kisakov. I don't like those prospects because they don't fill a need we have in any way but we get a 1st and a body.

Wild won't do this due to cap situation. Wild need guys on ELC's. i like Olofsson with Boldy, could be fun to watch, I just think in the current situation the Wild couldn't afford this deal. It's also a bit early to look at moving Spacek. He was a 5th rounder but could end up being a mid pairing guy. I would accept this if the Wild weren't in cap hell for 2 more years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lsendel3</b></div><div>That it’s absolutely terrible for Buffalo probably. I mean, you certainly wouldn’t do Lambos and a 2nd for Girgensons just because you have many D prospects would you? Didn’t think so. But that’s on par with Dumba’s on ice value. He’s been pretty brutal this year</div></div>
Depends on the situation the team is in. I never say no to a trade and look at it more in depth. I think Lambos could be good, but he's still young and hasn't proven anything yet and a 2nd doesn't do anything for me right now. So I look at the Dumba trade as this, the guy has been on the trade block for 5 years now. His contract is up and is very unlikely to be resigned. The trade deadline is coming and he knows he is gone, I think he plays much better when he is traded. Imagine being in a situation where you are talked about being fired every day no matter what you do for that company. I'm not saying he will be a 50 point scorer again but he certain is capable of playing Top 4 minutes in this league. On a Cup team hes a stud bottom pairing guy and plays in all situations.
Savoie, Kulich and Ostlund haven't proven anything yet at a pro level. I'm not saying people shouldn't be excited about them or protect them but they still haven't done anything at the AHL/NHL level. Of those 3 Ostlund is seen as the lesser of the three. I picked him because of that and a 1st that will be 20th - 25th in this years draft. Sorry if the value is off a bit but honestly Buffalo's window has been pushed up because the team has come together so well. You guys are a scary looking roster. I'm glad you guys have bounced back so well, because that Eichel situation was no fun for anyone and you deserve a good team. Hope to see you do well in the playoffs and will probably be the team I root for if the Wild don't make it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>So that's a pretty big overpayment for Dumba. A middle pairing defenseman on an expiring contract, you could possibly pry out a conditional 1st from someone. Definitely not a 1st and a very good prospect like Ostlund. Dumba just simply isn't worth that.
A bit of an overpayment for Knies, but honestly I'd make that deal to get Knies to the Wild. Hartman is a good player on a very cheap contract though, it'll be impossible to replace what he brings for that little money. So Guerin probably isn't interested in that one.
I think Greenway gets more than that. Still relatively young and has some traits that GM's would go bananas for (size and strength). Having a down year this year, but there would be enough GM's willing to take the chance on him, I think he'd get a 2nd or equivalent prospect/roster player, depending on how Guerin wanted to go.</div></div>
On the Hartman trade, I see Duhaime, Greenway, Foligno and Hartman as the same fit on the roster. I think trading for Knies gives us an option next to Boldy next year. That can become your second line and take more minutes from the GREEF line. I see that as a win-win trade for both clubs. I know Toronto doesn't want to trade him but Hartman on his cap hit and play all over the roster would be a huge add for them over the next 2 years.

I'd assume the Dumba trade comes with an extension. I think teams trading for him would want to negotiate an extension before making the trade. The lowest mock trade I read was the Toews trade from the Islanders to the Avs where they sent two 2nds rounders to the Islanders. The highest comp trade I saw was the Ristolainen trade that send a 1st, 2nd and Robert Hagg. I don't think Dumba gets this even with an extension. Ben Chiarot fetched a 1st, 4th and Tyler Smilanic. I also don't think he gets this haul either. I think a first rounder that sits 20th position or higher and a prospect for a guy that can be a rental or sign long term on a 4 million cap hit isn't a bad thing.

Plus, IIRC, Dumba also got demoted to the 3rd pair for a bit earlier in the year. Trying to frame it as being a Brodin injury issue seems pretty disengenuous IMO.
As for no replacement this year, Guerin seems pretty confident Faber will be able to step right in once the Gophers are done .</div></div>
Been on vacation here but I'm still correct in saying we have no replacement for Dumba this year. Unless Faber signs before the deadline, he won't be playing in the playoffs. And the Gophers have a real shot at the Frozen Four this year so I don't see him leaving early which goes back to me saying "no replacement for this year." Dumba won't be back here after this year. We aren't going to resign him even if he takes a massive pay cut. So next year Addison, Faber and Spurgeon will most likely be playing on the right side.

That is your opinion. Reaves has been spectacular for us since joining the Wild. I was worried he would take a ton of unnecessary penalties and not contribute much else. He has been very solid in the minutes he has gotten and knows his role. While Knies looks like a hell of a prospect, he is still a prospect. Lafreniere was supposed to be a can't miss prospect but here we are. I don't value your draft picks because they are at the bottom of the round every year. Last year it was pick 25. I think it will be lower if they can make smart trades. Lastly, retaining was the other piece to the equation which you are missing. If you like Dumba his cap hit will most likely come down from the 6 million we gave him. At the end of the day this is all hypothetical but Knies and a 2nd isn't too far off for both those players and retention.

I don't think Brady is far off by looking at the numbers. I'll give you a bit of a summary since I don't watch every Caps game so I wouldn't be informed in making a trade with them either.
Dumba was taken off the PP because Addison has been incredible and Spurgeon our captain runs the other PP. So his points are down for that reason. His defensive play has been better this year which has been his biggest knock. He's been playing with random partners as Brodin has been injured quite a bit this year. I think the Wild want a 1st or a high prospect they like. It all comes down to what is offered. If the Wild are a playoff team and no one pays what BG is after, they keep him and let him walk. We don't have a replacement for him this year so if we keep winning we most likely keep Dumba.
