Would 2024 1st, 2nd, + Pickering do it or do you think it's gotta be the 2023 1st? Either way though I would do it if I were the Pens

To DET - PLD
To WPG - Rasmussen, 17 OA, and an A/B prospect (Wallinder? I’m no expert on the DET prospect pool)</div></div>
DET fans are extremely high on Rasmussen, he would be a non-starter

Do wild do this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>I’d do this no question from the Wild POV. I have zero clue why PIT would want to part with its top 3 assets to gain a goalie that’s obviously on the down swing and and an unproven young C (albeit one that’s likely to have his breakout this season).</div></div>
Because they're trying to win now and we need to get more youth in the lineup. Can't do that through free agency and while I'm not a fan of giving up draft picks, doing so for a center with tons of potential is worth it for me. I know he's unproven but if there's a player who can help win now and potentially bridge the gap when the rebuild comes in 1-2 years I'd take that risk. I don't think Pens have any chance next year unless we make some bold, creative moves

Buyout Hell
For the trade, it is a little heavy on the Pit side. The picks difference is around 100 points or 38th overall. I really like Addison but he will probably require a low 2nd not a high one.
A fair trade would be:
Pit 1st + NJ 3rd for Addison + Min 2nd
That would be like trading Addison for 56 overall

His biggest issue has apparently been conditioning and that takes *years* to really reap the benefits of. Gus had a good season but if he has a .930 rather than a .950 during that late season stretch we’re not having this conversation.
Gus seems like he’s got a bright future, especially in the Wild system, but I’m not sold he’s closer to a 1A than a backup yet. Goalies are very fickle beasts.</div></div>
Indeed they are. Sometimes you pay $10m to end up with a 3rd string goalie and then suddenly you're in the Stanley Cup Finals with that same goalie.

Depends who's available when the offer is made and if they've had a chance to find out. If you can get a dependable veteran on a 2 year deal for under $3.5m, sure you definitely consider taking the pick.
Fleury's days of being a 60+ game starter are over, so you need someone you're absolutely comfortable starting for 50+ games and leaning on come playoff time.

If that's what Gus will sign for, the Wild will just keep him and go with the same tandem this season. Next year Fleury will be gone and they can go Gus/Wallstedt if he's ready.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>Kinda forgot about Peart, lol. But I guess it’s important to not tie up money so we can’t spend it later, the sting of the Goose, Merrill, and Greenway deals is probs pretty fresh. I don’t doubt the team looks into retaining some of those guys (Hartman is the only one I’d prioritize) but there’s no reason to sign them now rather than next summer, or at least until after a big target like Matthews is officially locked up.
And if we don’t have a big name guy to go after, do the thing we did this year with cap space. AKA, if you’ve got time then use it.</div></div>
Completely agree - don't spend just to spend and any veterans that we do want as insurance can be prioritized last.

But if, big IF, Matthews expresses interest in playing next to Kaprizov, it would be a mistake not to sign him. We’ve been whining for a 1C forever and getting one in UFA is reason enough to say screw those guys.
I think the question mark ELCs are Yurov and Ohgren but wouldn’t shock me to see one of them on the opening day roster in 24. I also feel good about Lambos and Hunt being in the lineup, albeit not on the same pair.
And regarding Rossi and Beckman, I expect them to be lineup regulars this year. But let me sign Duhaime and Dewar and I think we’re in business. I don’t think this is sooo much of a stretch.</div></div>
No I know, I wasn't trying to come off as condescending. I know you're in tune with what's realistic vs. hypothetical and I do think it's a fun proposal just to see what it would/could look like. I just know Guerin will have extensions done that tie up money, but no harm in looking at things alternatively.
I do think Ohgren will be ready when he comes over and I also think Peart won't require a ton of time in Iowa once he eventually comes. To me, both of them play very mature, low-mistake games.

Definitely will have a little more breathing room in 24-25, but no way Guerin rosters 8 ELCs to regular roles.
I'm all for the youth movement myself, but in all reality, you'll easily have a few million less than what's mocked here. Like it or not, we're gonna see things like extensions to some of [Zucc, Reaves, Foligno, Hartman]. Then you'll get a few plug-a-hole types like the Steel, Bonino or Kulkov's of the league.
No reason the ELCs can't earn the jobs, but Guerin will def sign a handful of insurance veterans just in case.

Re-trying the Barrett Hayton Idea I had
After how Hayton broke out at the mid wayish point of the season, I can’t see Arizona trading him not unless it was quite a substantial overpay.
Once the coach finally gave him the chance to play in the top 6 he thrived big time, his 2 way upside is also a big positive.
Personally I think they are looking at Hayton and Cooley for their top 6 centers of the future

It undoubtedly lowers his ceiling, but he’s so smart and skilled there’s absolutely a top 6 guy there.</div></div>

But to your last thought, I don’t know what gives that impression. I realize there’s a narrative about him right now but we’ve only seen him play 4th line and that is not a role he will excel in. If Dean is so set on Freddy as the 3C, then you’ve gotta stick Rossi with 97. Any way you slice it, Rossi needs to play a lot next year.
I fundamentally disagree with the idea that Freddy is a better option than Rossi.</div></div>
I certainly hope you prove me wrong about him. Assuming the whole team were healthy, would you say that Rossi was a better option than Freddy to play against Dallas? That is where I am coming from. If he doesn't deserve only 4th line minutes next season, which I totally agree with, then where does he fit? I don't see how him playing between Duhaime and Foligno is going to help him much more. And EE and Hartman have the top two Cs clamped down, for now. Here's hoping Rossi finds that killer instinct, because he doesn't have it right now.
I bet if he struggles again in the fall, they try him at wing. Maybe opposite 97, who knows?

I think Addison gets more like 1M AAV, that is unless they trade him away. I think Foligno getting traded so that Nyquist and/or Soucy could come back is intriguing, even though it probably won't happen. Goose is probably gone, assuming he expresses that desire to Guerin.
I sorta have a bad feeling about Rossi right now. I really hope he has a solid offseason, he needs it. Next year could be make-or-break for a prospect of his stock. No way Freddy gets relegated to the fourth line, he is a perfectly fine 3rd line C/W and a better option than Rossi in that spot.

An alternative look at Addison to DET
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>Evason’s system is about forechecking and limiting chances, Addison excels at pushing the offensive side of the game with possession. If he works on his stick checking this summer, I don’t see why he’s not a #4. I’m 100% with you that he’s not suited to that style but the coach needs to maximize the tools he has, not try to fit a square peg into a round hole.
We never got to see what he looks like next to Brods and that’s a pair I think has a lot of potential to both create and defend off the rush. You need to utilize Addison’s skating and vision to allow him to succeed, not force him to play net front.</div></div>
I mean, I agree with your point on Addison. But he DID play with Brodin for a short spell last year for something like 3 games or such while Dumba was out. I think they looked good together, but it was too short of a span to determine if he was a fit there or not.
