Why Not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>This is extremely confusing...
What does Arizona get for retaining 4 x $1.75?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gary_bettman</b></div><div>WHy not? Because SJ easily declines. Silly.</div></div>
2 6th rounders, I doubt SJS would decline, they dont want anything to do with Kane or the 7m, they will have to pay to get rid of him<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CAPDumba</b></div><div>What is your obsession with kane? He's a cancer in a bad way and a winger, and horrible contract</div></div>
Kane at 1.75M is not a bad deal at all, guy is a good hockey player. A strong leadership group can put him in line if not can bury him for a year then buy him out.
Kane has had 206 points in his last 270 games, The guy can flat out play NHL hockey, getting a guy that puts up 20-30 goals a year and 40-60 points a year and who is tough at 1.75M is worth the flier. Kane the last 120 games (2020-2021) 48G 48A 96Pts 164Pims, 232 Hits. Fiala last 114 games (2020-2021) 43G 51A 94 Pts, 85 Pims 52 Hits. So you basically get JT Miller and replace Fiala with Kane and you upgrade you Center position and you get a guy that has produced at the same rate as fiala and who is tougher for 1/5th of the cap hit, no brainer from me. Only thing that holds this back is Kanes off the ice issues.

What would we get for him as an RFA, other teams know we likely cant afford him. An offer sheet from 4.1 to 6.1 is a 1st and a 3rd, so a 1st and 4th isnt terrible value.

Yeah Id hope dumba would re-sign at his current AAV. IMO he is not worth more than Brodin, but we will see where the cap is at when it comes to it. Ended up keeping greenway after looking at his comparables, and I think 3x2.4 would be a fair bridge, but who knows what he thinks hes worth. anything under 3 would be fair IMO

I mean, they would have Boldy and Rossi both on ELCs next year, then Bjugstad probably could come back for under a million. Gologoski is reported to be signing an extension for 1 year 2M Jan 1. But then it gets tight, Dumba or Zuc would probably be traded.

Just trying to put out some sort of realistic trade offer, Khov + 2nd and 5th is for them to retain money for 4 years. I think the 2nd and 5th would get min of 3m retention maybe 4m of retention and Rask is to make the cap work this year. I think RyJo is a victim of Hynes’s coaching and needs a change of scenery. Since Hynes took over in 2019 RyJo has 78 GP and 33P before that he put up 60+ points 6 years in a row. If he could be a 50 point guy he would be worth the cap hit.

Agree with that, I think Duchene would be cheaper because he’s a year older and has 1 more year on his contract than RyJo, maybe it would be Rask+Kohv and a 4th for the same retention as RyJo?

Apologies for not realizing that a 23 year old who put up just under a PPG in his first year of North American hockey playing with an incompetent center has officially peaked, my bad. We still have his rights for the next 3 years. He is clearly bluffing here but he may be burning every bridge in MN to do it. Unless he puts up 100+ points in his years in Russia he’s not going to get over 9M when he comes back by playing the next 3 years there and he knows it

I doubt the Brodin deal is a bad contract in 5 years considering he just turned 28 in July, the contract ends his age 34 year and should be good value throughout. Spurgeon I’m more weary of being a bad contract in 4 years, but with the dead money coming off the books then I think the wild will be able to make it work. Personally I’m not sure what to do here, I think you trade Kap for as many picks and prospects you can get and if Spurgeon is an anchor in 5 years then try to trade him to a bottom feeder looking for assets. Build the team around JEE, Fiala, and Brodin, and hope that Rossi, Addison and Boldy live up to the hype. Might as well try to tank after this year especially if Kap leaves.

Outside Mackinon, Barkov and Pasta, Kap at 3 or 4 years by 5M is a bargain. Also need to factor in that Barkovs contract is up after this year and Pasta and Mackinon are up in 2 years. The value you get from Kap being on a contract at that low of a cap hit is well worth giving up Byfield and a first. MN retaining 5m on the contract gets us another first, and also taking on Dustin browns final year is worth another asset. Valardi probably stays out of the trade, but It being Kap for Byfield 2 firsts and Dustin brown allows LA to have extra cap this year and go for it next 2 years as Turcotte and Valardi develop.

If Billy G wants to commit to a re-build, doing a sign and trade with Kap and retaining salary is the best way to go. You already have Suter and ZP contracts weighing you down, if you were to retain 50% on Kap your able to get more value for him considering that retention would be worth about 4-5 million a year.

Youre getting from LA
Best Prospect
Top 6 FWD prospect
2 potential lottery picks
And Dustin Brown (who you are asking LA to retain on)
cmon man</div></div>
Marchands 2nd contract was 4x4.5 those 4 years he didn’t put up PPG numbers till the final year of that deal. Those were his age 25-28 years. To say that this contract wouldn’t be a bargain at a 5m cap hit is wild. And the fact he put up his numbers with VICTOR RASK as his center means he can carry a line and will be Marchand level playing with Kopitar at a lower cost. To give up that much is very much worth it.

“He is what he is at this point” so he’s a PPG player where you would be picking up a Cap hit for him if 5m for the next 3 years? That contract would be the biggest bargain in the NHL. He’s a better goal scorer than Panarin and put up similar point production in his first year. Panarin also played with better players his first year. The Panarin trade was for cap reasons, Wild would get a significantly better return.
