Granlund Buyout
Sadly, this is a good approximation of what the Karlsson trade would look like. Of course it's hard given the need for a 3rd team to facilitate and Chiarot's 10 team no trade list.
My one hope would be for the conditional pick to be upgraded to an unconditional 2nd.
All these trade protections should be rolled back to make trades more feasible. Idk maybe limit the number a team can give out to 3.

Not a bad offer for Karlsson. Honestly throw Driedger in there and save the 3rd round pick. To complete the trade, Sharks might like a prospect like Ty Nelson who has some offensive upside as a RHD.
Trade ends up being two contracts, two prospects from the second tier of the Kraken system, a 1st, and a 2nd.

I think that's a reasonable trade from a Sharks perspective, but management would probably want Pickering over Smith. Maybe adjust the value of the conditional 2nd (e.g. drop the conditions or later round pick) to compensate.

There is very little market for Karl. He wants out.
Burns is more steady and reliable.
Karl is more dynamic but only available for about 2/3 of a season.
The return will be quite similar (with whatever is required to move Petry / Granlund added into it).</div></div>
I don't disagree too much, but I'm just very puzzled why there wasn't more of a market for Burns. Maybe he used his 3 team trade list to effectively control his destiny.
At the very least Karlsson seems open to more teams. And I hope you do realize how pitiful the return for Burns was. We essentially traded a top 10 RHD with $8.1M retained for a 3rd, a 4th liner, and an unranked AHL prospect.
By your logic if the Penguins gave up a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Karlsson, they'd already be paying more than what Burns fetched. Literally two mid picks for a Norris trophy winner and you still have to pay him $10M not to play for you.

This is way too much for Karlsson.
Pens fans (who I believe are somewhat misguided) are offering packages that you could reproduce if you were to remove Nylander and Murray then add $3M in retention on Karlsson.

Karl also shot over 10% on the year 5v5. His career numbers are roughly half that.
He had a really good and lucky season. He also has a NMC and wants out, with very few teams interested.
Sorry but he is not worth much more than what Burns got.</div></div>
Except Burns fetched maybe a quarter of his market value in that trade because apparently nobody except Carolina was paying attention (and Grier wanted to do Burns a favor).

Yeah sorry I misread your comment as meaning he had never been worth his cap hit in any of the first four years of his current deal.
However, with retention he should be a significant steal now that he's healthy and playing a style that suits him.

Except half the league should have wanted Burns for his age 38, 39, and 40 year seasons if they had been paying attention. Especially at a $5.3M cap hit.

Karlsson hasn't been a worth a $9m cap hit over the first four years of his contract. Dubas and Waddell are not paying Karlsson like he is a perennial Norris contender. Because he hasn't been. And there's little reason to think he will be over the next 4 years. If San Jose is demanding that kind of return then they simply won't be trading him.</div></div>
Karlsson was worth more than his full contract ($11.5M) this past season.

Vlasic will play top 4 minutes again. Either Knyzhov or Simek would get bumped out of the lineup.
Lindblom should be the 12th/13th forward based on performance last year. At least staple him to the 4th line.
I like Eklund with Hertl to balance size and creativity.

Yes but they're both expiring and the Sharks are tanking this year. The retention amount is actually low in this deal which is the biggest win for the Sharks. Then we get 2 1sts, 2 3rds, and some okay to decent prospects. I would hope GMMG would accept something like this.

Fair. 4 years on Campbell's contract may be too much. Replace Campbell with Yamamoto and Foegele. Again the team likely won't be Edmonton.
But the trade will likely include cap dumps coming to the Sharks

Personally I would not because I'm not convinced on Sharangovich. Sharks would probably prefer a 2nd in his place.
After Zetterlund came over and disappeared with weaker teammates, I would be concerned about Sharangovich doing the same. I don't think the Sharks are in a good place right now to get the best out of players.

I don't think Hertl waives his NMC, but a 1st plus prospects would be an acceptable deal. Maybe the Canes give up better prospects (not Morrow or Nikishin) or more picks to improve on this package.

Sure maybe it's a bad idea for the Kraken to trade for Karlsson, but you generally have to give up good picks and prospects for the reigning Norris winner.
If anything this trade favors the Kraken in terms of value. But I understand that fact doesn't mean you would want to trade for him.

SJS 2023 off-season
Although you got pushback from fans of other teams, you did a good job at crafting these trades. Most are approaching fair value, which can't be said of a lot of ACGMs.
I wonder if GMMG is plotting a rebuild like this (i.e. tear it all down for max picks) or whether he tries to slowly turn things around. A Karlsson trade and what we do at goaltender will answer that question.
