Washington Capitals signed Rasmus Sandin (5 Years / $4,600,000 AAV)
He's regressed a little from last season with a minor drop in both his points and his on-ice goal differential. It's not a serious issue, but at his age, he should be producing more each year.
A LOT of people here are saying this will age well, but it needs to age well, because if he were being paid this much this season it would be too much. If he regresses again, then this contract will look really bad.
On the other hand, the cap is going up and there will be a ton of very silly contracts handed out, so this likely won't be the worst of them.

(VGK/WSH) - 2024 2nd (VGK), 2026 4th (VGK) for Mantha
To get Guentzel it would've cost a 1st round pick, I think people forget that the Draft is in Vegas this year and so similar to the Rangers, they want to showboat on home turf.

Really fair deal for both sides. Vegas gets a guy already at 20 goals and the Caps get a decent return for a pending UFA.

Extremely good deal for both sides. Mantha should fit like a glove, and Washington recoups some picks for a pending UFA who has had his ups and downs. Vegas also keeps their 1st to use for more buying (Guentzel 👀)
All things considered, this is an extremely fair deal. Good stuff

Wanted him back for next year for the bottom pair to help the younger guys and was hoping they wouldn't let him go for a 5th or similar. I was thinking 1 yr at 1 mil is plenty fair and could live with this slight overpay but don't understand the need for 2 years. Hoping it's part of a sign and trade? and dreading when the inevitable NMC is announced.

Jersey got a player who is, at worst, a versatile injury replacement.
The Avs got two pieces, neither of which will likely play a single game in the NHL.
Jersey wins.

Nashville Predators signed Michael McCarron (2 Years / $900,000 AAV)
Look, I've really liked the guy this season, and he's a great depth piece for this team RIGHT NOW. Emphasis on right now because this team desperately needs a change in direction, and this signing, along with Cole Smith, goes against that idea
Preds need to embrace either a retool or full on rebuild, consistent middling is not a good place to exist because you cannot get better, only worse as time passes

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
Like this a lot for Calgary, get a first, good prospect, and talented player for a guy who wanted too much money and seems to be falling off. Honestly the biggest win is not paying whatever his next contract is.
For Vancouver I think they paid a fair price, but it was only fair because they put Kuzmenko's value in the toilet. The relationship with Tochett seemed rocky and his confidence was wrecked after being scratched.
I also don't love trades where you trade a 1st+ just to upgrade from a talented player to a talented player.

I really like Monahan, I think hes a great player and will fit in nicely in Winnipeg.
At the same time though, the Habs FLEECED the Jets. How do they manage to win every trade involving Monahan? Investing so much in a guy who has battled significant injuries is ridiculously risky

Fair deal, WInnipeg adds a needed center and rounds out their top 9, Montreal gets a 1st for an expiring contract (and someone who they took on as a cap dump with a 1st previosuly so amazing asset management)

(MTL/WPG) - Monahan for 2024 1st (WPG), 2027 3rd (WPG)
Montreal gets a 1st round pick to help their rebuild. Trade away a pending UFA and still have a chance to resign him in FA
Winnipeg gets the best UFA center available to help with their playoff run. They have a very good prospect core so they can afford to trade a first. Get a 40-50 PT center who's young enough that they can resign long term if they'd like
Montreal W based on we literally got a 1st round pick for taking Monahan
