Good middle-6 guy with size. Players that have size are highly wanted. For under 3.5 mil its a great price

Great deal for the wings. Eats a lot of space on the ice and if he can just learn to shoot the puck would score a ton due to a great forechecking ability

Seems like most comments on Detroit's moves fall into two categories:

Homer Wings fan drones who think Yzerman can do no wrong.

Or trolls who just want every move he makes to implode.

This is fine. About what should have been expected for what Ras is and isn't. I'll take 3.2 mil AAV for a guy who can play up and down the lineup over 3.4 mil for Justin Holl to watch games from the press box.

I really like this for the Wings, Rasmussen has been extremely productive at even strength and will breakout sooner than later. Real good player and a great contract to match

Good 3rd liner, good ones usually get around 3m a year so it’s pretty much in line. Good deal to me

Money is not terrible but personally I don't like this much term for middle-six guys. Sure, he's a big boy and just entering the prime years but still. I'm also looking at his injury history and seeing a couple of knee issues, can someone with insight on the wings enlighten me if there's potential risk there as well?

Idk about this one. Contract itself is not bad, but its Rasmussen I'm worried about. Can he be better? Not sure he's worth $3M+ quite yet

Doesn't really seem like it. He's been pretty durable since he became a regular in the lineup. Even if something like that does happen, does it really matter when you can just send guys to Robidas island?

As a guy who did not care for Ras most of his career, he is starting to find his game and coming into his frame much better. Most big guys like him take longer to find their game and utilize their size correctly it's sometimes hard to forget he's still only 24 being that this is year 5 for him in the show.

I would say there isnt much injury risk, his biggest injury was a broken knee last year off a wicked clapper from the point. But he hasnt shown any signs that it's bothered him this year, and that injury happened rather late into the season last year.

Missed this. Solid deal for a young middle 6 forward that buys 1 year of UFA. He's playing 3rd minute TOI, but hopefully that goes up with him currently playing on the 1st line.

Okay yeah that doesn't seem like something that's got big repeat risk, especially for a younger guy.

I was a bit on the edge at first, but learned he now plays centre, which definitely tilts me to the "good contract" side.

They're paying him for what he will do, not what he has done. I'm not a fan of the term/cap hit, but it's not terrible.

Probably could have gotten cheaper based on RFA control and production but it's hard to go wrong on an RFA deal like this.

Compared to UFA prices, good.

Detroit's 6'6 Barbashev

Thinking about this more and this deal is very comparable to Capitals with Alexei Protas'. Both teams using term to get a possible steal of a 3C or top 6 winger in the future, with the worst case scenario being a slightly high 3rd line physical winger. It's a good bet and one that will help their teams cap situation in the future. It worked for Vegas with Nicholas Roy and isn't too far off what Columbus did with Boone Jenner and Winnipeg did with Adam Lowry in 2018.

I like these moves and don't see them as much of a gamble. Much better than signing a guy like Barclay Goodrow in NYR for that role
