There's really no reason to give him more than the minimum. Maybe 1 million at the most

minnesota signing a bunch of aging veterans to overpays long before they need to after a beyond mid season is certainly a choice. I really don't understand why there is such strong desire to bring back most of their UFAs when this team already seems like they are stuck.

Wanted him back for next year for the bottom pair to help the younger guys and was hoping they wouldn't let him go for a 5th or similar. I was thinking 1 yr at 1 mil is plenty fair and could live with this slight overpay but don't understand the need for 2 years. Hoping it's part of a sign and trade? and dreading when the inevitable NMC is announced.

Remember when it was considered a coin flip on which defenseman the Kings were going to take at #2 overall in 2008?

Remove his name off the trade board, oh what are we ever going to do without Acgm offering 6th Rd picks for him.

At this point in his career, this is too much for him IMO.

he would have probably received interest from 5-6 teams if they didn't sign him is my guess.
God knows PIT could use anyone above AHL quality on the 3rd pair.

Meh. Contract is basically buriable if he's terrible and they'd probably get a 5th round pick at best so might as well keep him and bring him back to take some of the load off Faber.

With Spurgeon out, he's played well enough on the 2nd pair for a guy that should be playing 3rd pair minutes. He's been one of the first to stand up for Kaprizov if the other team targets him and he's been decent on defense. Assuming Spurgeon is back to his usual level next year, Bogo will be just fine at this salary on the bottom pair. Minnesota's defense hasn't been great this year, but that's not on him really. Mermis, Goligoski, and Merrill have been the problem. Probably worth mentioning the Wild have nothing for defense prospects that are right shot and will be ready for a NHL role next year. I don't see this as being a problem at that cap hit. Again, if he's bad you can just bury him and move on.

A lot of GMs love guys like Bogosian. It's been a trend where likes like him, Schenn, Gudbranson, Gudas, etc are getting notable money over multiple years.

If I had to guess they're planning to have him as a 3RD as an anti-thesis to guys like Faber and Spurgeon. Not sure how effective he'll be in the coming years but I'd be looking at easing Faber into more and more difficult assignments and relieving Bogosian of them.
