WIN THE BATTLES
Only Tkachuck and the 4th line are going to be capable of getting the puck out of their own end. Worst puck moving team D in the league. First round exit still.

whos leaving the leafs
Bread to Marner is practically a lateral move. Marner is faster and can create more space, but bringing him on will require NYR to double down on investing the lions share of its cap in skill, which they've already started to sour on.

Aggressive Re-tool
You don't think it'll cost more to get rid of Kuzy? I doubt you'll get a 1st for him from Columbus. There are a variety of bloated C contracts that they can take on to address their need for NHL centers. I would imagine they're probably going to get paid to take Hayes from PHI, or pick up Bjugstad on the cheap. Kuzy isn't worth 7.8, so something has to even out the value if you're not paying someone to take him. His play off the puck is horrendous.

Rangers
Contracts look right, but Bjugstad gets more and the Fast recency bias is cute but he's not a top 6 guy you can rely on for the long haul. CK is a top line forward. Panarin should be the odd man out either moving down the lineup or to the right. I don't blame him for our playoff performance but he does need to move his legs more/improve his game without the puck and he should feel lots of pressure to do so at 11.6m.

Moving Perron would be a bad move for them. 20+ goals and leadership for 4.75 is a great deal.

I'm on that rational judgement. None of those players are going to be as good as Lafreniere and definitely not in the timeframe NYR needs.

Laf Trade
Dach isn't even half the player Lafreniere is. There is no comparison. Lafreniere has the most ESG in his draft class and the 2nd most on NYR since he entered the league despite working under two clueless coaches who constantly moved him around. Only Kreider has more. Would Detroit do this deal for Raymond, Ottawa for Stutzle? No chance. But because they landed on bottom feeders while Lafreniere went to a team with an NHL top 6, they have been put in positions to cash in on easier points than he has.

NYR would get a high 1st round pick, Gorton gets his choice back into MTL without sacrificing that 5th overall.</div></div>
This is insanity. If this was offered for Stutzle everyone would say that it's an insane underpay despite the fact that he has less even strength goals than Lafreniere even though Stutzle has been fed top line minutes since he entered the league. Regardless of what is going around in the clueless media, there's no chance Lafreniere would even be dealt for the both their 1sts AND Dach.

Goodrow Buyout Makes More Sense Than a Trade
I've been yelling about this since the moment it was signed. It's like it was designed to be bought out around now. 2 years of extra cap space vs his AAV and then a negligible cap hit to follow, further minimized with the cap going up. No need to trade him, especially not if it costs anything/retention.

0 possibility he gets moved, negative possibility the player with the most even strength goals in his draft class gets moved at "low-ish" value.

I hear you. It's such a trip how people view Miller, like they don't watch him play at all. If he gets OS at a higher price than this, you let him walk. Let another team sign Tyler Myers 2.0. 13/18 of the teams eligible to do that were lottery teams this year. He'll be better if he's given time to develop, but I don't like the odds of him being able to live up to that deal given what he's looked like here.

What I Would Do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Doobs92</b></div><div>Goodrow isn't leaving. No team wants to help the Rangers. The only plausible team I see is Buffalo, but as a locker room guy and a playoff performer, the Rangers aren't getting rid of him, even if he is paid too much. You can overrate playoff experience all you want, but the 4th line was our best line for the majority of the series. They should do everything in their power to keep that line together.
The obvious casualty is Miller. He hasn't been fantastic, and he's an athletic freak, but he is going to price himself out. We have Lindgren, Jones, Robertson, Hajek, and Harpur, and the Rangers are just going to have to get by on those five guys.
You're not bringing in Othmann to play him on his weak side. You're asking for another development disaster. If Othmann impresses, my guess is this is the offseason Lafreniere leaves. If Lafreniere shows improvement on the right side, Kakko will most likely go.
Tarasenko and Kane aren't coming back. Nor should they. The Devils were faster. That was the only difference. Faster to pucks, faster on the rush, just plain faster. Bring in some unproven talent and bring in some speed. Not aging veterans, even if they performed fairly well. Here's how I see it shaking out:
Kreider - Zibanejad - new RW
Panarin - Trocheck - cheap RW, Gurianov type probably
Othmann - Chytil - Kakko/Laffy
Motte - Goodrow - Vesey
Lindgren - Fox
Jones - Trouba
Robertson/Hajek/Harpur - Schneider
Shesterkin
Hopefully Halak but if not enough money Domingue I guess.</div></div>
This is pure insanity. They can sign every kid and have cap left over. Goodrow is going to get bought out, he doesn't need to be traded. He didn't contribute anything to the bottom line except taking penalties. He's a placeholder. What did this "locker room guy" do to help whatever was going on in that room that they didn't even show up half the series. Only his agent should be talking about him in this way given the context.

We'd probably match any offer sheet on either/both of them and it wouldn't be worth the heat in going after them, but we'll see. During the regular season he's looked very good for stretches but in crucial games he's not only ineffective, but outright horrendous. He gets a lot of love for his reach and stride and not nearly enough criticism for his lack of hockey sense and bad decision making. I wouldn't be surprised if 4.5 feels heavy when you're looking for an impact player who doesn't have to do it all and get some of the performances he's put up.
