If Canes miss the playoffs
Does the trades make sense now? I want to explain my thoughts
The second was downgraded to the 3rd for Kubalik, even if the Blues don't want Kubalik, they could flip him out and be up draft capital on the trade. Otherwise they can try him on the powerplay which is the main reason why they are underperforming (I believe they are bottom 2 in league for PP %)
Burns is the #1 D in Carolina for ice time, 21:37 TOI, 6'5", 230lbs, on pace for 15 G, 39 A, 54pts, has 2 yrs remaining at $2.6M in this deal, former Norris Trophy winner, etc

Overpay to clear cap AND load up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Flyers decline</div></div>
Fair enough: What would need to be added, I assume not much? Currently, its a 1st rounder, a prospect picked 19th, a prospect picked at 33rd, and a 2nd rounder. Plus Joseph who is still young and a good bet as a reclamation project while the Flyers are in rebuild mode - with some salary retention, he could be moved tomorrow for additional pieces, as he is a top PK specialist and one of the fastest players in the league. I don't think many other teams will give more than 2 firsts and 2 high seconds value. What San Jose got for last years Norris Trophy Winner: Penguins first-round pick (2024, top-10 protected)

Norris to the wing
I was thinking about this when Isles were reported to send Pageau alongside Wahlstrom back in the package for Debrincat. If the centre position was Stuzle, Pinto, Pageau, Kastelic with Tkachuck, Giroux, Norris, Batherson, Kubalik, greig, wahlstrom/joseph on the wings, it may be interesting - and its always nice to have a guy who can play centre should someone go down like last year.

Offer Sheet Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>lol who in their right mind would give up Brannstrom for a 7th round pick?
I mean, even Dorion the worst GM in the NHL (and among the worst in NHL history IMO) wouldn't do anything close to that
I wouldn't even trade Brannstrom for a late first round pick. He is a Tobias Enstrom in the making and is already half-way there (almost there defensively though)
Here's why I have compared those for 3 years now :
Both 5'10 LHD from Sweden, thought to be offensive D-men but primarily good defensively. Can run a PP really well but excel in puck retrieval and in transition. They move the puck swiftly. Both can get physically dominated in front of the net or in the corners but won't shy away from contact to make the play.
The main difference between the 2 is that Toby started his NHL career at 23 y/o (EB played his first NHL game at 19 y/o), the age Branny is now. Enstrom averaged 35 pts per 82 games during his career so we'll see what Brannstrom can do offensively from now on. 20 from 23 Brannstrom has averaged 21 pts per 82 games.</div></div>
If he can get more, great. The move is about Bouchard. Brannstrom is 5'9" career 190gp 4g 45a 49pts -18. I agree someone will give more than a 7th, but the cap is an issue for almost all playoff bound teams who can't send salary back.

I know nothing about this guy, but at 21, his AHL point projection has him being an average 2nd line centre, and most scouts appear to be commenting the same.

Trying to be real --- Ottawa Senators 23-24
I think your right, in that Dorion plays hardball. I think he will get the Cat under Stutzle's number or will trade him, basically a "here it is, take it or leave it" deal (I have a funny feeling the Cat will take it and lay some roots in Ottawa).
Brassard is in Ottawa or retiring - he has said as much, as he has moved too much in recent years and wants to be near some businesses he's invested in (Gatineau Olympic being one).
Hamonic has always put family over career, so we will see if Ottawa is a good fit for his family (he has requested trades to be near family in Manitoba in the past and even did not report for a period in Vancouver).
I also think Formenton, if cleared, will not cost that much. He'll be a RFA with baggage and who spent a year outside the NHL. Maybe a 2.5 million bridge deal. I think your close on Pinto, definitely a bridge deal, as he has shown he's not quite a 2nd liner yet.

Gautier will not be getting that much, unless he shows a willingness to fight - he has been healthy scratch material for too many years, he is just looking for a one way contract at this point. With that being said, I do see something there, if he could just start playing to a role instead of trying to play to the high draft pick he once was.

Cat may not sign for less than 9 mil, but I think PD will play hardball and just say, "here it is - take it or take the trade" (which may be to Winnipeg or wherever). If Cat wants they 9, Sens prolly can't afford him unless they know the cap is going up in the next few years (rumours are saying it is).

Oleksiak y3
Let me start by saying I was formerly a flyers fan, now in the Ottawa area and fully converted - but huge fan of Giroux (and before that Richards).
With that being said, If anything, I think that this shows there may be a problem with the Giroux signing. 3 years from now we are meant to be contenders, we want everyone on the roster above, and need the veteran defenseman (whether it's Oleksiak or whomever). Giroux looks AMAZING this year, but that 2nd and 3rd year of the contract may cause issue - especially if his play slightly drops off to the third line, where his production will take a hit.

(1. and 3.) We need Tkachuk now, not in 2 or more years, (He's RFA NOT UFA) so trade is necessary, if it takes an extra 1-2 million, we can get it done. (2.) Let Brannstrom walk if he doesn't like that deal, I don't really care for the player. (4.) Zaitsev needs to go so that the cap dollars work, so burying is NOT an option.

my thoughts
If these trades are accepted, I'm all in, I would even throw Brannstrom into the Dvorak trade (maybe loose the 3rd rounder then) These trades add guys close to the core in age, and size up the middle, with both Dvorak (2nd C slot) and Strome (in 3rd slot) being big bodies - and white then fills in the gap on the right side. I would like an upgrade at RD, so brown becomes the 7th Defenseman (I think he's the perfect 7th Defenseman, who brings physicality and eats up minutes as a penalty killer when injuries arise).

If we trade them, we may need to retain but this is literally not beneficial for Chicago.
Also the Zaitsev cap dump?</div></div>
Hey Brännström, Filip Chlapik, Filip [RFA Rights], and Tierney, Chris [RFA Rights] are all NHL ready players in my opinion, with the others being future prospects. Chicago's current plan is to keep all these players, which likely isn't going to help the Hawks long term (Toews is already pouting on record).

I think they would say yes and just flip one of them for picks, seeing as they get Brannstom, Chlapik, a 2nd, 6th, and 7th in the deal and probably can't afford Cirelli anyway.

Edit: also, we have no need for any more LD. Our team needs are a top 6 RIGHT SHOT RW, Top 6 RIGHT SHOT offensive C, and if we trade one of Dumba/Spurgeon/Brodin, then a top 4 D coming back to replace them.</div></div>

If you look at the numbers I have here, The LTIR includes Stone and Ceci (I did that just so I can show them at their new cap hits). Additionally, Brassard makes $3M or less in real dollars next year.
Other than that I made a couple minor adjustments for anyone who thought a salary was unfair or a trade was unfair (I'm not worried about getting more than a 4th for Claesson, expiring contrat, and healthy scratch lol)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NateElder12</b></div><div><i>As a Flyers fan I know this is wishful thinking. Simmonds has probably the best contract in the league and there is no way they are giving him up without getting a significant draft spot or really young high ceiling prospects. He deserves to be making money like the other power forwards in the league (Perry from ANA for example) but is making half of that for at least three more crucial years for us. Maybe if it was Read and Simmonds for Ceci and Zibanejad we could work something out. Maybe the Flyers throw in a defensive prospect like Hagg in that deal too or a 4th rounder. What do you think?
Simmer & Read for Ceci & Zibanejad</i></div></div>
I'm thinking that your right and it is wishful thinking...however I think Ottawa retains $1M from Ryan's contract and its a fair value trade. Then the Sen's are basically paying Simmonds $5M and Philadelphia is paying Ryan closer to $6M which is both closer to (not dead on) what they should be paid. Then its just a trade where Philly is getting a LW prospect ready for full time duty and a defensive prospect not far off and a 3rd rounder, plus unload an unwanted contract.
I'm guessing you just haven't seen a lot of Ottawa games but in their organization Ceci is a non starter. He's a local product who has a chance to be in a role with Karlsson the way Suter was to Weber a few years back.

Hopeful but realistic
Thats maybe the hopeful part, I tried to entice them by taking on part of Read's contract (which they want to unload) adding to their young D depth, and adding a 3rd rounder. Also, Ryan is a Philadelphia native and a natural goal scorer who can play left wing (something Philadelphia has been seeking for years to play with Giroux on the top line). I'm hoping a top line of Ryan, Giroux, Simmonds is too good for the flyers to pass up.

Just thought a young defensemen who can run (at least) a second unit powerplay and two established top six wingers plus a first overall pick is equivalent to a number one defence man on a team that needs point producers.
