Offer Sheet Trades

Created by: senators55
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2023
Published: Jul. 12, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Toronto buy's out Murray, Ottawa has the draft capital an cap space to offer sheet Bouchard - Edmonton would have to clear around $2,230,000 to match (and would have 4+ players on league minimum in that scenario). this would mean replacing Kulak or Ceci with another league minimum D-man, and having Caggiula, Pederson, Malone on roster, and would have to let McLeod walk. Edmonton may match, but I would expert it would make them think.

Additional Details:
Isles had a terrible power play, and only one defenseman capable of being on it. Brännström is better suited to add offense on the 2nd PP and can add offense at 5v5 with first pass and skating - essentially he is a poor mans Ryan Ellis. Isles get him for almost nothing, creating a low risk acquisition.

Think the rebuilding team will keep the younger, cheaper, better player.

Doesn't look cap compliant for 223/24...especially bonuses to be paid. Then how to pay Sanderson next season without any big expiring contracts, and other players to sign.

Change NYI's 4th to Aho and I think they'd consider it. Brannstrom is a low-risk medium-reward defenseman we could use.

NYI I'm sure would also consider Brannstrom and a 2025 2nd for Wahlstrom.

Hawks obviously decline. I'm not sure the Hawks would take Joseph for the 3rd and the 4th with nothing going back to Ottawa. Joseph is just another bottom 6 forward, of which the Hawks have too many already.

I am pretty certain the Hawks would want at the very least a 2nd+....Joseph does absolutely nothing for a rebuilding team at rock bottom and as such is nothing more than a 6 million dollar bill (9 he is owed verses paying a kid a million).

lol who in their right mind would give up Brannstrom for a 7th round pick?

I mean, even Dorion the worst GM in the NHL (and among the worst in NHL history IMO) wouldn't do anything close to that

I wouldn't even trade Brannstrom for a late first round pick. He is a Tobias Enstrom in the making and is already half-way there (almost there defensively though)

Here's why I have compared those for 3 years now :

Both 5'10 LHD from Sweden, thought to be offensive D-men but primarily good defensively. Can run a PP really well but excel in puck retrieval and in transition. They move the puck swiftly. Both can get physically dominated in front of the net or in the corners but won't shy away from contact to make the play.

The main difference between the 2 is that Toby started his NHL career at 23 y/o (EB played his first NHL game at 19 y/o), the age Branny is now. Enstrom averaged 35 pts per 82 games during his career so we'll see what Brannstrom can do offensively from now on. 20 from 23 Brannstrom has averaged 21 pts per 82 games.

No chance I'd do any of that. People are just a bit late on Brannstrom. He's quality

So far he has averaged 21 pts per 82 games in the NHL, just need a few more pts over a full season so people will notice since they mainly scout with hockeydb.com

If he can get more, great. The move is about Bouchard. Brannstrom is 5'9" career 190gp 4g 45a 49pts -18. I agree someone will give more than a 7th, but the cap is an issue for almost all playoff bound teams who can't send salary back.

If the Sens didn't value Brannstrom, they wouldn't have re-signed him to a 2.0 AAV contract. They would have just traded for a late pick (but he's obviously worth a lot more than that)

2-3 years ago many were calling Brannstrom a bust because "he couldn't crack a terrible Sens roster"... I was trying to explain them context and why there was no reason for a rebuilding team to force a young player in the lineup.

Brannstrom has progressed a lot since, he has the best defensive metrics on the team (and among the best in the league) and he proved that he could take on more minutes with looking even better when Chabot was injured. If he puts 30 pts this season while staying this good defensively, you'll see his value skyrocket on this forum

Sens don't need Bouchard at all. They have Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun, Brannstrom and Kleven.

If you want to add an expensive D-man, you'd have to trade one of the big 3
