they can jump start the power play without even making a roster move ;)
I think it might be better served to get another defensive minded defenseman to help.

Apparently the caps have interest in Zacha but the interview with EF is unclear
I'd rather the Caps go after a goalie with some term (like Quick) if they're gonna move a second rounder for a veteran goalie. It's pretty clear to me that neither Samsonov or Vanecek are going to grab the reins and be the undisputed starter, and getting a guy like Quick might bridge the gap a bit for the next season and a half.

To be fair, you can say this about pretty much any statistic. CF% isn't a perfect statistic, but it's a part of the holistic picture of a player's performance. You can probably get a better view of a player's holistic performance through GAR though.

retool next year or start to rebuild
Feel like the Pens are going to be in the same spot the Caps are for the next few years. They're not going to be a rebuilding team when they still have Crosby/Malkin on the team, just like the Caps won't be a rebuilder with Ovechkin/Backstrom on the team.

caps lines when after injuries
If I was a betting man, I'd put money on Laviolette scratching Sprong instead of Sheary or Eller to keep McM in the lineup.
My preference would be to scratch Sheary, put McM on the third line with Eller and Oshie.
Ovechkin - Kuznetsov - Wilson
Mantha - Backstrom - Sprong
McM - Eller - Oshie
Hagelin - Dowd - Hathaway

healthy caps team
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with the roster when Backstrom, Oshie, Dowd, and Mantha come back. Personally, I think McMichael has earned a full time job in the NHL, but he may be the odd man out because he doesn't need to pass through waivers to be sent down.

Mantha out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>This seems like quite an overreaction.
From what I've seen I think Mantha has been pretty good, and I think he has played pretty well with Eller and Sprong. Should we trade him however, Olofsson is a great return.
Samsonov looks... shaky for sure but I'd give him some more time to try and iron it out. It seemed to take him a bit to get up to speed last year and it seems to be happening again this year but I don't think we should be giving up on him yet.</div></div>
I'm not sure why Mantha needs to be traded. 4 points in 6 games, and his possession numbers are average because he's been getting 60% defensive zone starts. I think he'll be better off when Backstrom comes back and plays with more of a playmaker. In my eyes, I think Eller is struggling way more than Mantha and he's the one with two pretty good youngsters breathing down his neck for a spot.
I think Samsonov has been okay. Last night was just a wild game, and he probably should have saved 2 or 3 of those, but there were a few that were unreal saves that I don't think many other goalies make.
If the Caps are going to shake up anything, blast Blaine Forsythe to the moon. Haven't scored on the PP since opening night.

Trading Kuznetsov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TreyKnott</b></div><div>Kuzy hasn't been on the best form in the past two years, getting a sniper down the wing on the second line is nice. I also think using Lapierre or Mcmichael is good for their development.</div></div>
Kuznetsov is coming off of a great camp, showed up in great shape, and is poised for a bounce back season. Center is more important than wing, and having a rookie play in the top six at center on a team that's still trying to compete for a Stanley Cup isn't exactly the best route for success.

Hendrix or McMichael
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>I would think since competition is close, CMM takes the spot since Lapierre is ELC-slide candidate. Plus I don't know the exact numbers, but CMM's faceoffs have been pretty solid (as well as Lap not including the first game). Kemps looked good, and this is probably an unpopular opinion since people love to hate on him, but Kuzy has been flying around this preseason. He has been active in both zones and has controlled the puck pretty nicely. Good sign</div></div>
92 has even been playing on the penalty kill. Figuring that Lavy is going to rely on Kuznetsov at both ends of the ice this season instead of very heavy offensive zone starts. I also would not be surprised in the slightest if Kuznetsov ends up as a point-per-game guy this season.

New Year
If Backstrom is going to miss the start of the season, I think it'll probably mean that Fehervary would be sent down to Hershey so they could actually field a full lineup. Either that or they put Kempny on waivers to be sent to the AHL so they can get some cap relief.

Good to see Wilson getting the recognition he deserves he is a great top 6 player</div></div>
I hope they change Wilson's player type from a grinder to a power forward. At least in NHL 21's chemistry system, he never had good numbers unless you changed his player type.

Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RebelCoach</b></div><div>I'm not sure if Kuznetsov has all the value to be worth more than Dvorak right now when it comes down to Kuznetsov's actions last year that have pissed off the WSH management, and that Dvorak's WAR score is higher while being 2/3rds the price. I don't think bringing back Beagle can be seen as worth anything to Arizona as they seem content to eat all the bad contracts and shouldn't be making things cheaper to take away their bad hits.
The other tough thing is that Kuznetsov has a NTC for 15 teams and you would HAVE to think Arizona is there...so unless he hates it in WSH or they convince him to go, it'll be rough.
I agree he should be the guy to go if they can, but for all those reasons it'll be tough sell...</div></div>
Where do you see that Dvorak has a higher WAR than Kuznetsov? Evolving-Hockey has Kuznetsov at a 5.6 GAR and a 1 WAR, and Dvorak at a -2.1 GAR and a -0.4 WAR. Kuznetsov is the better player, and it doesn't make sense for the Capitals to trade him for this return.
If the Caps haven't traded Kuznetsov yet, they're not going to. It's either that, or they're waiting for the Eichel trade to go through so they can work with one of the runners up who lost out on Eichel.

That and I'm not sure where Rask fits in the lineup. He's not better than anyone the Caps currently have in the top 9, and I don't think he'd be a good option on the fourth line with Dowd and Hathaway.

I think this team could be anywhere from 2nd to 4th in the Metro this season depending on how everything shakes out. Outside of Samsonov, I think the biggest question mark for this team is Kempny.
