You can't accrue cap space during the year if you use LTIR. That would have been the big motivator, especially because most NHL salaries are insured so LTIR players don't cost more than a few dollars to ownership

No, slide eligibility has nothing to do with playing the WHL or not. It's based on signing age. Bauer is not eligible for an ELC slide.
Please see here for more details: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#els">https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#els</a>. All slide eligible contracts are noted on a team's roster page with a blue downwards arrow

He stood out at development cap last summer because of his physicality, and with the Moose losing 2 of their simple, physical D men (Nogier to a trade and Kovacevic likely becoming the 7th D for the Jets) there's a spot for him.

He will play in the AHL next year, but his contract is not slide eligible.

Offseason
The Jets, already projected to be a cap team, are not going to take on $7 million in goalies then retain another $3 million on top of that.
Also, it's been reported that Hellebuyck is happy in Winnipeg and wants to stay so I'd put the chances of him being traded at zero

Whats scheifeles value
I don't think ~8 games against some of the worst performing teams of the year in dead rubber games shows that the Jets don't need Scheifele. He has this flaws for sure but he's still a 1C with elite offensive instincts. 6 straight 30 goal seasons at $6 million will be extremely hard to replace. I think the Jets would really really regret trading him especially as they try to retool and get back to being a playoff team.
Chevy spent 3 years trying to get a bonafide 1a/1b centre punch and now that he has it I don't think trading it away makes any sense. Let's see how Scheifele does with a new coach and new systems. Giving up on Scheifele this season smells of all the Jets fans who gave up on Dubois last summer (some of whom i know see arguing he is the team's 1C and should be the captain lol)

too bold or no
The thing about Friedman's speculation was that Dubois was worried that the Jets would be entering a retool/rebuild, so if he is going to be traded (highly unlikely) I don't think Buffalo is the kind of place where he'd sign.
If it's $$$ Jets will give him that contract above in a heartbeat

Prospect Pool After Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bnormie46</b></div><div>I find it funny that an 18 year old can play in the NHL but isn't allowed to be in the AHL. After seeing what Perfetti did in the AHL in his first year I think it benefited him a lot more than if he had to be in the OHL another year. Plus from a revenue standpoint, I believe it would benefit the pro leagues to see more of that age group talent in the lower level pro leagues.</div></div>
I agree, but the revenue point is actually why the rule exists: CHL teams have want to be able to get those high end guys with them a year or two longer to attract people to games. The new CHL/NHL agreement could change that though

I believe the Jets have the choice in his case because he was in the NCAA. Normally he would still be too young to play anywhere other than the CHL (Like Perfetti this year if it weren't for his covid exemption)

In need of a serious retool
To answer this seriously:
- Monahan is, through no fault of his own, a shell of himself because of injuries. He's a cap dump at this point
- Wheeler isn't going anywhere and I doubt Nashville is on his very small trade list
- Stanley will fetch more because he's 6'7" but that's a whatever
- Morrissey has been the best Dman on this team by a country mile this year, and if you throw outdated analytics at me don't bother, he's been an analytics and eye test monster this year. Look at the other extensions being thrown around, his cap his looks incredible now
