I wouldn't give a first for Monahan. Half his points this season come from him playing PP1 - which he wouldn't be on on the Canucks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>in my opinion, that was the worst selke finalist outcome i have ever seen. lindholm is the 3rd best defennsive on his team, not in the league.
im not saying he is a bad 2-way player, but he is far from elite defensively.
on top of that, 2022 is the most outlier year of lindholm's career, and he has regressed back to career norms since then. he has proven this year he cannot carry his own line. tkachuk and gaurdreau elevated him, like they did monohan before him</div></div>
Interesting. I've always thought he was very good defensively when watching him, albeit that's mainly just when he is playing the Canucks - so pretty small sample. Like you say, he did have terrific linemates during most of that time.
He's never been below 50% corsi or fenwick and this season is his only below 50% on ice xGF. If I remember correctly he was always considered a defensive 3C type when he played with the Canes.

Probably accurate assessment. The problem is he will cost a lot to acquire, a lot to resign, and he’s not the best option out there. He would be my plan B or C</div></div>
Who do you think would be a better option? I personally love Lindholm as a player. Feel like you guys have it backwards when thinking Horvat is a better defensive player - Lindholm was a Selke finalist in 2022.
Edit: I do feel he will be prohibitively expensive to acquire and retain.

Deadline Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>B28</b></div><div>I actually think Giroux is a pretty solid fit on line 2. Especially if line 2 is Kuz - Giroux - Mikheyev.
Not sure if Ottawa would part ways though or if Giroux would wave. Seems like he's quite valuable in Ottawa. Limited "good" vets on that team (just my opinion).
Would you still target Giroux if the ask is 1st in 2025 + Truscott or Brzustewicz + Garlund
If I have to knit pick, it would also be nice if we could target a guy that is on his final year. Definitely won't be as talented as Giroux but someone like Henrique or even Lindholm (harder to resign).</div></div>
I like the 1st, Truscott and Garland. It's very close though - Garland has been sooo good the last couple of months. I'm not sure Garland would be as attractive to Ottawa either.
I wouldn't trade Brz with what he is doing right now.

I think Shea Weber gets in as well. No cups but two time olympic gold, WJC gold, two time first team all star and two time second team. There was a good period of 5 years where he was the most feared player in hockey either with his slap shot or going into a corner with him.
...I'm an idiot he's on your list.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>Easy pass for Canucks.
Canucks don't need Giroux, and they shouldn't trade their first round 2025 pick.
Why would Canucks need Giroux when they have JT Miller?
This trade makes no sense at all.</div></div>
Fair enough if value is off - I first had it as a second and then upgraded assuming Ottawa wouldn't be happy with that. I still like Kuzmenko a lot and would hate to lose him, but you have to give to get.
I don't really get what you're saying that we don't need Giroux? Running Pius Suter as your 2nd line center isn't a recipe for success in the playoffs. Giroux could replace Kuzmenko on PP1 and adds playoff experience and some grit. If you move Petterson back to 2C Giroux can play wing with Petey or Miller.
I'm totally fine just letting this year ride and seeing what happens - but I also think Giroux is almost a perfect fit for the Canucks.

The recency bias with him is crazy, people really forget how dominant he was</div></div>
I can't think of a time where he was the best defenseman on his own team let alone one of the best in the league. He was a good defender but he's won 0 awards, 0 playoff success, and meh stats. He had a very comparable career to Dan Hamhuis, who was also on that 2014 gold medal team, who was also a good player but in no way a HoFer.
That SJ team according to you had Thornton, Burns, Pavelski (consideration) and Vlasic (consideration) not to mention Marleau will probably be added for GP record as well. Five Hall of Famers for a team that did nothing is a little much no?

Pavelski should be added to the Maybes. Giroux and Weber are maybe as well imo. I'll get heat for Weber but his decline was pretty early and happened very fast. And if shutdown D-men ever get love, add Slavin and Vlasic to the the maybes

In general it's hard to even consider anyone under 30-32. Its just a guessing game of if they stay healthy and on their trajectory</div></div>

Marchand is partially responsible for my city burning down (kidding, btw) - so I'm with you on whatever those **** are covering.
I think him being the ultimate pest actually plays in his favour here though. He had some dirty plays which will work against him - so maybe I am wrong. I know Giroux had some great tough series with the Flyers but I'd personally vote Marchand.

'Bust' like Hoglander (who plays 10 min a game and has as many goals as Tuch).
Fair enough though, the Sabres are obviously a set team and shouldn't go making trades that could potentially muddle that up.

You're kidding right? This is the Canucks best young roster player, a guy who is maligned but had 39 last year (only two less than Tuch this year), far and away the Canucks best prospect and a first.
If you want to hang on to your future captain, fine, but this is a huge overpay for a pretty good winger.

He's a solid player but he's not a guy I think the caps will be building around moving forward.
That's a pretty comparable return to what Horvat got when he had 31 goals in 50 games and came with an 8x8 extension.
I would be very surprised if the caps make the playoffs this year. I could see them holding on to him just to not piss Ovie off... but they are a bad team.
