Description
The thing is, we don't know what Lou actually did, because of his silly 'cone-of-silence' rule.

Let's get into the heart of the team construction below.

1.) Garland takes his elite 5v5 scoring and 'swiss-army knife' skills to OTT. Jacob Bernard-Docker is young and still has top-4 potential. VAN can ease him into a rotation on the bottom pairing. The key is the return of the '23 1st (top 8 protected). In the event that OTT climbs out of the basement, this pick comes to VAN. In the event that OTT stumbles, the pick defers to '24.

2.) COL trades one pending UFA for another. VAN retains 50% of the salary on JT Miller to make money balance out and to further prompt COL to include their top D prospect not named Bowen Byram and the '23 1st. Everyone wins. COL gets more scoring punch (at a discount) and the ability to further balance out their lineup as Kadri signed with the Flames. VAN gets the 3c they thought they were signing in Dickinson.

3.) WPG: the trade really works out like this.

Travis Dermott for WPG's '24 3rd
Future Considerations for Jason Dickinson, Jett Woo and VAN's '23 2nd

4.) DiPietro goes as close to home as possible for BUF's '23 5th. His career is salvageable, but not in Abbotsford.

Evan Rodrigues signs prior to the start of the season on a 'show-me' deal.
Tucker Poolman goes on LTIR to start the season due to recurring migraines. Hope he heals up for his own well-being.

COL isn’t trading for Miller. They have zero chance of re-signing him. Need all the upcoming elc contracts that can contribute which would be Behrens, and they aren’t trading their only pick in the first 5 rounds of consecutive drafts. COL to VAN doesn’t work for COL.

Drop Dermott and the 3rd and the Jets might do it.

You can just bury Dermott in the minors, his cap hit wouldn't be much on the Nucks, maybe someone claims him on waivers.

Surprisingly Ottawa won't have the cap space, or desire to trade their 2023 1st, for Garland. They'll need JBD next year more than Garland.

Personally i think its what the contenders do to put them over the top. It's going to be a rental for sure but it gives us another weapon upfront to help replace kadri and burkys additional scoring. Our window is right now, the player drafted with this pick won't be ready for another 3 years and behrens won't be cracking the roster next year either so it really doesn't take away from our time in the win now mode and gives us an excellent shot of going back to back with the cup
