And that is why he will not be traded. I know Botterill would not make that trade. I cannot comment on the others.

I agree. I'm just saying that people have to stop assuming that they can get him for a cheap price.

Provorov is a future top pairing d man, Konecny was one of the best 5vs5 goal scorers in 2018, while you're also asking for a top 15 pick.

    Fine.

If that's the case, I can't wait to see your sorry face when no one pays that price for him and he leaves in free agency for NOTHING!!!

So whats more important to you? Jacking up the price on a player you are losing leverage on by the day or getting something reasonable in return? You're choice.

I don't see how anyone has to overpay for Karlsson anymore. He'll still fetch a lot but some of your deals are insane. He's reportedly asked for a trade and Ottawa basically has to move him before the start of the season. This situation is so toxic its pathetic. They are losing leverage fast and teams will recognize this. Just watch, he won't go for as much as you think. Especially compared to some of these deals. Appreciate the effort though, I mean in another world if non of this was going on Karlsson could probably fetch this much AND a signed Karlsson would definitely be worth it. But that isn't the case...

The reported asking price was a good prospect, top 4 defensemen and first round pick. Where you get some of these trades is beyond me. Especially now that he asked for a trade and was already threatening to leave for free agency, trade leverage in not in Ottawa's favour. But out of all these trades there's one that I need to point out as absolutely stupid (there are many but just pointing out one) and it's the Vegas trade because if you did not know, they declined a Karlsson trade in which they were giving up a lot less

Here’s the thing, every one of these are overpayments. No problem with that as he is one of the best OFD in the game. Here’s where the issue is. The longer the wait for the trade the less the value he carries. Not to mention only 1 year left. One would assume that many of the trades you would get in return would include atleast one pick as a conditional. Ottawa’s situation is NOT a good one and GMs know this.

Whats the over under on the entire Ottawa team just calling it quits? Karlsson needs to be traded and with all the drama there, they have limited leverage. There are only 3-5 teams that would be able to justify a trade for Karlsson and a couple of them would take on Ryan's contract to lower the cost considerable.

As a TO fan, I am not even answering the phone if Ottawa calls. Nope, don't want him. Yes he's the best RHD in hockey, but he's going to cost over 10 million on an 8 year deal and he's 28. Handing 8 year deals to someone in their late 20's is a terrible idea. Don't believe me? Corey Perry.

you know the asking price for him was a top 4 defenceman a top prospect and a 1st, and you asking for double that might need to check out the players value first before you try getting everything from other teams. Not one team would do any of these deals.

Vegas didn't decline any trade. The Sens didn't accept them. It is false that we are actively shopping Karlsson. We aren't! And btw the asking price is more than that!

Right on! This whole exercise is is a joke, but unfortunately is the way that many people think. Reality is that it will likely be a 1 for 1 deal with someone close in talent or potential, aka the Weber-Subban deal, the the Jones-Johanson deal, the Hall-Larsson deal or similar. The other option is some team that believes they are 1 piece away and willing to mortgage the future for a 1-time shot.

If you look at offer sheet scenarios to get an idea what the league believes is fair compensation, even the worst compensation is, I believe 4 first round draft picks for this level of picks. That sounds great but the reality is if they are from playoff teams, NONE of them are likely to be home runs, and individually each has something like a 30-50% chance that they'll even be NHLers of any significance. Most of these trades are for 3-5 pieces, each one that is a home run or all-star level player. Its so ludicrous its not even worth commenting on, except its a slow day and perhaps a few will come around to reality thinking... it would help. You are correct that Karlsson only has 1 more year left before he can just walk, for NOTHING! With the absolute gong show that is the Ottawa Senators now, that may be the most likely outcome.

    Yup!

I mean it would be a different story if this was last off season. I'd shut right up if it was. Last off season, Ottawa could of virtually asked for anything and it wouldn't be that far fetched. Now? As a result of all the things that have happened since losing to Pittsburgh in the playoffs, has been negative. That gives leverage to the other team and takes it away from Dorion. It sucks for Ottawa because this was a crucial year but c'est la vie!

Oh they will be 100% shopping him. Come July 1st they'll put a half-decent offer in front of him (who knows what half-decent means with Melnyk footing the bill). The second EK declines the contract they will be open for business. They're not stupid enough to risk waiting until trade deadline when the # of teams that need him and have the cap space will be limited.

With the rising cap and the likelihood that Hoffman, EK and potentially others are being moved out...they are better off keeping Bobby Ryan and maximizing the return (and number of suitors) for EK.

So....if you believe the Sens DON'T have to trade him....then sure...they can certainly ask for the moon....but I think that will just be more harm than good...

They're better off declaring to the league that he's for sale...anyone interested can put their best offer on the table...and let supply/demand dictate the return.

The Senators are in interesting (sad) situation since they are going to have an unprotected # 1 pick going to Colorado in that terrible Duchene trade. Trading Karlsson and making the team weaker just brings that lottery pick closer to # 1. But Karlsson has to be traded for some pieces. Unfortunately his injury had an effect on his play last season and is it going to affect his play this season?
Karlsson, Hoffman, Duchene, Melynk, it's really fallen apart since game 7 in the semi 13 months ago.

Ivan Provorov has more trade value than Erik Karlsson, so good luck getting him + Travis Konecny + 14th overall.

Elliott Friedman, one of the most trusted sources, if not the most trusted said it himself. Ottawa wanted Glass, Miller and a 1st Round Pick. Vegas said no because they were unwilling to give up Glass at the time. It was pretty known at the deadline that Vegas had declined, we just didn't know what
