Description

Okay, for all you guys who think Toronto should address its cap problem by dumping Zaitsev, here's an offer you can't refuse -- a 100% savings on his cap hit and an A prospect (with half a season of experience) and a B prospect in return. (With all the talk of trading Nylaner, Kapanen, Brown or a combination thereof, acquiring Sherwood makes a lot of sense.)

Well, there you have it. $2.5M in cap space (or $3M if the cap rises to $83M) to sign 2 RhD's and address that glaring weakness on the right side. Good luck and hope you're happy!

Johnsson and Kapanen are going to be at least 1 mil less each. Oz doesn't even play in the NHL anymore lol
Leafs are not dumping Kadri for that little. But the Zaitsev trade looks realistic

Good deal for the leafs, I like the way you left it open to make a move for a top pair rhd. Would imagine with acquiring Sherwood that Kappy is the obvious trade with picks and prospects.

Yes, my point is that, as our friend @palhal often says, once you "dump" Zaitsev, you have the unenviable prospect of having to replace him with assets acquired from trading Kadri, Brown, draft picks and maybe more, or else making an even greater dislocation in the roster.

Check out Reinhart from Buffalo. He had 3 years similar to Johnsson and Kapanen. Bridged for 3.65 ish....

And Sherwood is faster.

Well the leafs offered him 2.1 and he said no. If it's not close to that there won't be a deal.

All on all pretty reasonable. Though the big issue is having two players Ozzie and Liljegren expected in the top 6. But that seems to be the Leafs cap dilemma next year.
If anything I would have Nylander at centre and with the additional cap space by not acquiring Jankowski, maybe you have cap space for a short term RHD.

BEST case scenario is Marleau getting back spasms over the summer ( i liked the guy a lot 10y back, i still do and i wish him no harm...its just....with knowing those RFAs are coming to be signed, anyone sane should skip the acquisition of him two years back )
