There is no offer sheet coming. If there were, it would have already been presented. Who's to say that there hasn't already been one presented? The player has to sign it. Obviously Marner doesn't want to leave the Leafs.

Problem is they over paid on Mathews and Taveres, there is not a team in cup history to win with a player over 10m. Only player in league worth more is Mcdavid. The team that bests them every year doesn't have a player over 7.5m.

I mean, I know everyone assumes Marner wants to stay but if he keeps pushing for a deal that will bring him, or eventually will bring him, to free agency as soon as possible, maybe he doesn't really want to stay as much as people think. I think Marner does want to stay as long as he makes what he wants but just like every other player, money will be the biggest driver to his future.



Maybe there has been maybe there hasn't. No one really knows but one thing is for sure, there is no need to sign one just yet even if the compensation is good. If i'm in his shoes, I'm only signing an offer sheet as a last ditch resort to either convince the leafs to pay more, or to move things along quickly before it escalates. Right now, there is no need to rush things. If Marner signs today or a day before training camp, it changes nothing. So why rush anything? Dubas and Ferris aren't freaking out. Its the media and the fans that are.

I'm pretty sure Marner's camp is playing this very methodically and not just jumping at the first OS that comes their way regardless of how much it is. This isn't just about money. It's about trying to extract the best offer possible from the Leafs organically without it coming to an offer sheet. Forcing them to his terms with threats of leaving and whatnot might pay him more but it absolutely has a negative effect on on future negotiation, relationships and public image.

I'd say that's actually about the right money but needs longer term. That doesn't mean Marner accepts of course.
