I think the problem with this demand is that there are only a few teams that can actually give you what you want and those teams may not even be in the position to make this trade.

I think the only trade scenario that happens is one that DOESN'T fix all your problems and puts a nice bow on it. That's why its imperative that Marner is signed. That's where the value is best. Not in trade.

The Wild offer Victor Rask, Nate Prosser when they make their annual waiver claim for him, and a conditional 7th round pick that gets upgraded to a 6th if Marner signs a contract in time to play a game in October. Rask is the portrait of gritty, unless he's going up against a kitchen knife. You'll love him, I promise.

He's a gud pro, 6'2" everytime he steps out on the ice. Not a gud ply'r against kitchen knives, still gud and gritty on the ice.

Thankfully kitchen knives are banned in hockey, so Toronto will be ok!

But you didn't say what you needed. Spaghetti did:

"I want:
A replacement for Marner (solid top 6 guy, gritty players would be preferred)(Anderson, ECT)
A solid defensive right handed defenseman on a good contract (Manson, ECT)
A backup that can play 20+ games (Georgiev, ECT)"

Here we go, from Washington:

Oshie (one less goal than Marner last year, in a dozen fewer games. The assists will catch up, if he plays with Tavares), Gudas (200 hits and 20 points at RHD for 2.5M), Copley (tied with Quick for 36th in wins), all for rights to Mitch Marner, and AHLer Jeremy Bracco. The deal hinges on Bracco to play 2R in Washington until cap space opens up to actually make Marner a contract offer. In the meantime, Washington will be vulnerable to offersheets in the 1st 2nd and 3rd round pick range, and they can live with that. Oshie would have to waive, but Toronto seems like a pretty good team, these days. Is that good, or should they throw in Lucas Johansen?

I certainly did say what I wanted... read the description...

Edit* this my description so you don’t have to find the agm

“Send me your best offers for marner. Young top four rhd, playmaking winger lh or rh doesn’t matter. Picks or prospect going either way you see fit to balance the deal. Roster players as well but there are many pieces that won’t be moved.”

Okay. Thanks for your feedback.

30 goal scorers under 6M aren't too easy to get, this summer. Toronto got a whole lot for one. They might know what they're worth. Oshie was on pace for his second 30 goal season in three years last year, but missed a dozen games. In the intervening year he played 3R, and focused on playmaking and checking, getting Lars Eller to career highs of 18 goals and 38 points.

90 point players are usually rare, except that with new goalie equipment last year, there were three times as many as the average from the previous ten years, so basically treat Marner as an 80 point player from any other recent year... except that he played 2nd line, facing not-super-tough competition, and played with Tavares, one of the best goal scorers in the league. So I think we're down to offering whatever you'd trade for a 22 year old who got 20 goals and 60 points, on most teams, most years. In that case, a 30 goal scorer locked up on a cheaper contract, plus a couple depth players, and a prospect? Not so bad. Add in the challenging contract negotiation with an agent who appears to think he's representing McDavid, and the bitterness with a team that just somehow paid Matthews like he's McDavid, but is angry that this somehow increased the RFA salary structure... and I doubt irl Washington even bids that high, or that irl Tor wants that much.

More interesting to bid on a struggling asset like Nylander, anyway.

My apologies. So you did. I forgot. If you want a wing who gets more assists than the one who played two years on a 2nd line with John Tavares, though, good luck! Talented young RHD, I mean, there are a half dozen options, there, and I'm sure you could list them faster than I can. But most of them are signed for half of what Marner's asking, and their teams are cap-conscious enough not to jump at a one for one.

Oshie is 32, and had some injury issues already.
Yes his cap hit is decent but he is a declining player moving forward, barley a 60 point player.

Gudas would have been nice before adding Ceci and Barrie, now, not so much.

Copley? Meh, dont care.

Johansen is LHD on his last year of his ELEC, not gonna lie didnt know he even existed before you mentioned.
Could he be good? Sure, maybe, will he be right now? I'd say no.

And you asked for Marner and Bracco for this.

Right. Well. It is a thread about what Marner is worth to teams outside of Toronto, which may involve hearing opinions from fans of teams outside of Toronto. Shocking stuff, I know. Did you have a counteroffer?

Lose bracco and add Ceci and a fifth for Toronto,
Washington has Gudas Oshie, copely, and a second.
