Dubois for Domi

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 30, 2019
Published: Sep. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CBJ have Center depth issues so Getting a 70 Point player like Domi who did 46% win rate on a 1000 faceoffs his first year while also getting the top player in MTL Camp and Preseason in Production and Play in Nick Suzuki .

Both Nick and Domi could play Center in CBJ organization . Suzuki's averaged a 51-54% win rate in the faceoff circle thus far while Domi's improved slightly to 48-50% win rate. MTL has Poehling/Kotkanemi here now with Danault coming off a career year with a top 10 finish in both Faceoffs taken and Wins so our middle 6 is getting really crowded at Center with no one ready today to take on 1st Center . (Enter Dubois )

CBJ makes out like bandits as MTL overpay in order to get an undisputed top line Center to play infront of Kotkanemi and Poehling long term as a core we can still have together 5 years from now and they'll only be hitting their prime as 25-26 year olds .

Both teams win and CBJ are in a playoff position again because Domi's a battler and a wet dream for Coach john Torterella who's always had success with players with Domi's Skills ,Ethic and Character .
Trades
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc
  2. Nutivaara, Markus
  3. 2020 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
CBJ gives up a legit top line Center prospect and a depth Player who's a solid 4th/5th D who can play both sides along with a 1st round pick in 2020 .
CBJ
  1. Domi, Max
  2. Suzuki, Nick
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (CHI)
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
-2021 2nd is conditional 1st if Domi doesnt re-sign with CBJ

MTL gives up a legit top line Winger coming off a successful first year as a Center . Suzuki a top Center/Winger prospect coming off a CHL leading Playoff year .

the two 2nd's have appeal after CBJ gave up their 2020 and 2021 second round picks along with their 3rd in 2020 . CBJ may be giving up their 1st in the deal to get better players for it . MTL makes the 2nd in 2021 Conditional 1st if Domi doesnt re-sign with CBJ.(example CBJ decides to trade his rights to TML because they made a really good offer CBJ still gets a 1st)

I read the first line of you’re explanation and stopped. “CBJ has center depth issues” so they aren’t trading their #1 C still on an ELC.

I also went back and MTL makes out like bandits not CBJ. They get a young #1 C, quality D and a first for a good winger, a good prospect and 2 seconds. They know what Dubois is at the nhl level. Hoping on a prospect who is only a year younger than Dubois. That’s a pass.

Great

Good great same thing. You missed the point, he’s still a prospect and he’s only ONE year younger than PLD. PLD has shown he can be a number 1C on playoff team

Dubois is a 1c at 21 not a prospect. He's the whole package and has all the tools to be an elite Centre sooner than later. How can Columbus trade that plus a good young LHD and a 1st which could be pretty high! For domi who you'd rather play on wing, and Suzuki who doesn't project to be what Dubois is? It's not good. Sorry they're not trading PLD and if they were it would start with kotkaniemi

Start with Kotkaniemi ? Kotkaniemi played at 18 yo PLD was sent back in the minors at 18. Anyway MTL CBJ are only good trade partners for a LW vs LHD

Right ?

Yeah but PLD is the biggest piece in the trade by a bit based on age and position

There is literally nothing the Habs have that would get us to trade Dubois. Period. Full stop.

I'm just not seeing the point in making this trade. All players involved are good but it doesn't really address anything without styfiling others development etc.

Just looking at value alone and not team needs or what not, the reason Columbus wouldn't do this has more to do with that 1st. Considering they could very well be a lottery team this year, that's a huge loss if they end up sucking as much as I personally predict. As for MTL, why is Suzuki even being used here? We finally have some really good prospects and we're moving them out already?

I got an idea. How about we keep all our assets for a good 2-3 more years and continue to build through the draft. Yeah PLD is solid and Nutivaara would be nice too but we've already addressed the needs those guys are giving us. Where does Nutivaara even fit in? Adding PLD means Kotkaniemi will never get the development he needs. Not with Danault being the most trusted center and Poehling eventually pushing him from behind.

The value may be there but the reasoning behind it isn't.
