I get want him but he is 31 and giving him 7 years on top of it is so risky. muzzin to is going to be 31 headed into next season. I dont hate moving nylander but why for a guy you can sign as a free agent. sign him and then move nylander for pics or prospects something cheaper you can spread around.

I can’t see any reason why the blues would possibly consider this. Try putting yourself in the blues GM’s shoes. I think it’s just a very quick no. I don’t think Petro is available, and were he, I don’t think this package gets you anywhere near the kind of value it would take to get those players. This would constitute punting for the blues.

I think the Blues saw Tavares to Leafs trade ideas on here for a year before he signed, and they saw the Isles get nothing. They've had since July to extend Pietrangelo. They accept any deal that starts with Nylander, so certainly hold Dermott out of it, and dump Ceci's salary as a matter of principle.

The debate here should be about whether it's worth Nylander alone just to get someone else to negotiate contracts on Dubas' behalf, or whether, once the Blues are told that's the deal, they realize they have the opportunity to make the trade more of a win by giving Pietrangelo 8x12. smile

'TDL, didn't finish the roster cause I just want feedback on the trade'
. Since you asked; I find these type of trades embarrassingly impractical, since the trade depends on the silly notion of a signed extension.
So the first place Blues, the defending Cup champs, tell their captain Pietrangelo. "We don't want you anymore and want you to accept a trade. So forgo your options as being UFA and hurry up quickly sign an extension with the Leafs because we want your sorry ass out of here. But if you and the Leafs can't agree to an extension, hey you are welcome back to the Blues as our captain and we want you to lead us to the Cup again."
See why I want these ridiculous UFA extensions banned from any post. Makes the whole post meaningless.

We already went down this road. St Louis attempted a 1 for 1 of Pietrangelo for Nylander before Nylander signed his deal 2 seasons ago and Dubas rejected because giving up a 23 year old high value young player for a 30 year old defenceman needing major money is frankly stupid.

Mostly agree. But that was before Nylander hold out for a 7M cap hit and came back to score 27 points last year. Now he's doing great, and again the Blues should be happy to swap. Maybe they have to add a little, based on age? I definitely don't think the Leafs throw in Dermott.

I don't think the Leafs would even consider moving Nylander for someone over the age of 25. It just doesn't make sense. He's way too good, and with Keefe in charge now, he won't be unnecessarily railroaded by the coach all the time.
