Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2019
Published: Dec. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Switch to tandem goaltending with Markstrom and Korpisalo.

Columbus gives Jones for superior goalie which they should have no issue paying.

Oilers add a top6 FW who likely hits 30 goals playing with McDavid/Draisaitl.

If Hamonic opts stay out west, backup plan is Sami Vatanen @ 5.5 million for 5 years.

I have been critical of Rielly's play (defensively) this season and people always just gloss over his defense and just spout off the offensive stats and advanced analytics.

At times, having a conversation about Rielly is so maddening.

His offensive stats and analytics have not been good either, so couldn't tell you what they were arguing for

What kind of contract would you give him? And what other options would you like to see?

It's definitely a good idea and the most recent trend to run with a tandem, the problem is trying to keep them together for more than a few years. But agree i think it's what we need to do and will do once Andersen is gone.

I feel Murray and Lehner will get similar deals, would rather Lehner.

Think 6ish million AAV

Like @jamiepo said the capspce is good to have.
Might let us extend Rielly and even Jones.

I looked at it after and that just made it better. IMO signing both Rielly and Jones would be paramount.

Can I ask why?
I mean they are getting a top notch goalie they should be able to pay.
Marner is just off a 90 point season.

Let me rephrase that response. The Columbus fans on this site say no. The view Bobby Orr... errr...I mean Seth Jones as the greatest player to ever lace the skates.

Also a thing I forgot is that dubas wont want to deal with darren ferris so I'm not sure if he will want to go after Anderson

That's his name, i was trying to remember it earlier but could only think of Boras lmao. That being said, I think we win this go around based on his poor play this year. I think Anderson would be ecstatic to play here because he's from Burlington and his fam could go to see him play alot more frequently.

Honestly, I would stay away from Lehner because of A: his price tag and B: I feel he's a tandem goaltender. As a tandem goaltender, that is super expensive.

Imo it's just smarter to invest in two goalies at lower cap hits. Markstrom...at first thought was not a good option but the more I think of it, the more it makes sense.

Yea.
Makes sense right? His name has so many letters.

Yeah lol. But IMO he's overrated. He's a better version of DD. He doesn't space the floor, he can't create for his teammates or open up space other than getting double-teamed sometimes, his biggest asset or what makes him good is his size and wingspan. He can jump from a step or two behind the free-throw line and dunk on most people and dominate down low again because of his size and wingspan. I'm not saying he's a bad player but great players make others around them better whereas alphabet needs to be surrounded to be better.

I don't think a team can win with him as the centrepiece or best player unless you have an AD level player as well. Again, I don't think he's a bad player I think he's a good player just overrated. I would rather go after someone like AD this off-season opposed to waiting till next year and hope the GF comes. Plus we could use Anthony Davis more and him at the 5 with spicy P manning the 4 O.G. at the 3 and FVV plus maybe Lowry at pg looks pretty good to me, we would just need to find a way to get Bradley Beal to lock down the 2.

I know it's an unpopular opinion and I'm sure I'll get lit up for saying this, but watch him closely the next time the Bucks play a team with a lockdown defender and see how easy it is to get in his head that is if he doesn't beat them to it. I'm not opposed to the Raps getting him and I'm sure we will but wouldn't you like to see someone like AD injuries and all instead or with alphabet?

Woah, inspiration found to make Rielly trade.
Mayne I should wait. Lol

Do it. Bit if we move Rielly I wouldn't do this deal. A big part of it for me is pairing Rielly with Jones otherwise what's the point of getting MO a partner if we're just going to trade him? Although that said I'm sure you will hit it out of the park.

Yeah, not this year. He has until June 25th or whenever the draft is before we should really start considering it.

I think it comes down to what he's willing to sign with us for because we certainly won't be paying market value for him. If he's willing to take a reasonable deal would you keep him?

The thing is he's always been this player like all offensive D are, we just didn't notice it as much because Hainsey helped cover up his mistakes more than most myself included have him credit for.

What kind of term? I think we could get him on a similar deal to Varlamov and I'd be okay with that, and yeah, I'd prefer him over Murray just thought Pitt might move a goalie out at some point and would rather keep Jarry, plus Dubas wanted him in the Kessel deal but got denied.

Seth Jones IS the greatest player to ever lace up skates! He is the greatest player in the world! He's the Mike Trout of the NHL! I want to do this response in all caps to show my level of excitement when talking about Seth Jones!!! Okay, I might be slightly biased here (is it showing? Lol), Seth Jones is my favourite player and I've dreamed of him playing on the leafs paired with Rielly since his draft year, but i get your point lol.

Agreed, but the two of them playing together would be to good to not do whatever you have to do to re-sign both.

I get your caution with Lehner but what would you offer him (if you were Dubas) that you could live with if he accepted your offer? I like Markstrom as 1 half of a tandem too, but who else would you target or do you like Korp?
