So aside from Dell, everyone of some value is untouchable.

Can't say I'd like to be in Wilson's shoes at the moment.

Burns 6 more years at $8M signed till he's 41; although he's still playing really well but in another 2 to 3 years that is going to be brutal
Vlasic 7 more years at $7M signed till he 40, already he's starting to decline
Karlsson 8 more years at $11.5M signed until he is 39, hasn't looked great because of fighting injuries, that contract is going to be a boat anchor in 4 to 5 years.
Couture 8 more years at $8M signed until he's 39; he's earning his money now and should for another 4 years

WTF is wrong with Wilson. Handing out big money on these long term deals. In 4 years, they will have 34.5m tied up in 4 players 35 and older. This is going to be a nightmare long term.

These are the 3 players that I was going to mention. Other than the fact that you can’t move their contracts I don’t see them as untouchable. Karlsson I can understand keeping to save face. He could certainly return to form but he will certainly start to decline soon.

Generally agree but I just want to add one thing.

Vlasic was in precipitous decline when he signed his contract. He was already, noticeably playing far worse than his reputation/usual self. This decline has continued ofc. People always say the Seabrook contract is the worst in the league but I disagree. It's Vlasic. 7 years, a full NMC at 7aav with bonuses. There is a general understanding of the ageing curve that Wilson has ignored, but he has also been ignoring what's actually been happening in the ice for years now. Vlasic should have signed a contract for 2-3 years around 2-4aav when he signed that monstrous deal. That was his real worth. A player without his name would have gotten just that.

If there is a gm willing to take that contract in the league, I don't care what the return or potential cost is, you pull the trigger before they have a chance to say no.

I find it funny that the people on here who criticize Vlasic likely aren’t watching him night in and night out like Sharks fans, yet they talk as if they have seen every sharks game this season and then they glance at his +/- and think that’s the entire story.

Pickles has without question been the Sharks best defenseman for 7+ years including this season. He hasnt declined yet, he still skates better than everyone on the team outside of Karlsson and he still shuts down the top players in the league.

To compare him to Seabrook (seriously) is proof you know nothing of what you said outside of the general consensus on ACGM (lol) Vlasic is 10 times the player Seabrook ever was. He’s really the only contract in the core of the sharks outside of Couture that i think is totally fine.

This team is the poster child for why you don't sign guys to big deals past the age of 33.

They will be wrecked for a long time.
My guess is they try to dump someone onto Seattle.

Gotta agree those long term contracts are going be really detrimental to the success of Sharks. The added factor is that it appears there is a trend to pay RFAs more money which will further squeeze San Jose's cap in the future. Possibly they won't be able to sign of their RFAs long term because of the cap limits the aging players have put on the cap. Also without expected cap space and the inability to trade "bad cap", can't attract UFAs either.

I think the fact that you accused me of citing +/- says everything we need to know about your credibility on the subject

Unless the Sharks are going to move Hertl, Couture or Meier, they're not gonna get anything in return. That's a long slow road back rebuilding without moving any pieces. Fans will be sitting there watching every decent RFA leave when they age out of their ELCs.

Sharks fans trading Vlasic and Burns are like Habs fans trading Price and Weber, thier real value is gone, and more value is probably I'm thier names then performance. Only bonus is that Weber will hold value to Nashville and has a low salary with no bonuses, things Vlasic and Burns contracts dont have.

In the end though the future is not looking good for San Jose

Wilson dug himself a huge hole and now he has to live with it. Sharks were good for a long time and should be a lot better, but some of those deals are only getting uglier

I watch at least 1/2 the sharks games, I live in the area. Vlasic is still good but has already started to decline from a couple years ago; that is very obvious. The problem may be you looking at who's he surrounded by on the Sharks and measuring as such versus measuring Vlasic against himself. I don't know one sharks fan who would suggest that Vlasic hasn't declined at all. That doesn't mean Vlasic isn't still good, but he is on the wrong side of his career and in another 2 years from now, that contract will start hurting, let alone 7 years from now. Yes, Vlasic's contract in a couple years is going to be widely viewed as worse then Seabrooks contract which will be close to ending. And let's be honest, Seabrook in his day was a better then Vlasic and I'm a huge fan of Vlasic and glad the Hawks have his cousin in their prospect pool.

Sorry but Seabrook was never better than Vlasic and has aged like Riunite Lambrusco.

Totally untrue, which I'm betting you never watched the Hawks from 2009 to 2015 to think that
