Why would players vote for him then.

Tanev and Hjalmarsson should be top-2 and then gap and then whoever when it comes to pure defensive Dmen.

Because he's the best defensive DMan who is also an elite Offensive DMan.

Maybe Tanev makes the list 5 years ago. Jared Spurgeon is a far better defender.

This poll is like the Emmys comedy catgeories - always a few years behind the times.

Why did players vote price as the leagues top goalie, bc they don’t know any better and just go with low hanging fruit answers. Won a veizna or Norris before I’ll put down your name

My boy Brian Dumolin snubbed. Continues to be the most underrated defensive D by everyone

I mean, its kind of misleading and that's why the players are probably misinterpreting the question....

Is it:

Best defensive dman (Dman who solely plays a defensive game and very little offense) - examples would probably be guys like Tanev and Dumoulin, etc then. Basically anyone who produces on average over 20-30 points a season does not apply here.

or

Best dman at playing defense (The dman that is best at defending - not taking their offensive prowess into consideration) - This one gets tricky because its tough to separate offensive game from a stud dman. Karlsson was at one time the best dman in the league but was he the best in the league at defending? Hell no.
