Description
Nashville sits dead last in the Central right now. It may be time for another Poile shake up.

Ryan Johansen seems to get a lot of hate on here from NSH fans, I'm curious to know more. But I'm going on the basis that he's still a good player who can produce at an above-average level. Trotz could use some top-6 reinforcements to make his life easier. Johansen has experience at C and W.

Nashville receives a 1st round pick, budding NHL Forward prospect, unsigned 2nd round pick defenseman (#47 overall in 2017), and young goalie prospect. They also save $2.5M immediately and shave 2 years off of Johansen's deal. 3 more seasons Nashville will have $0 left on Ladd's contract. Johansen would have $8M for another 2 seasons at that same time.

How about the value of the trade then? I see him as a 60pt player who produces a lot of shots. Fills a void that the Islanders need at the moment.

Johansen makes more money than he probably should, but Skarek is a sub-.900 sv% goalie in the ECHL, Salo is 21 yrs old already and just an average defenseman in Liiga, Bellows is likely a bust, and Ladd has that massive contract and can't even stay on an NHL roster... Not really a good trade for Nashville.

He is a pretty overpaid player at 8 million, probably should make 2-1.5 million less, but he is a good two way forward capable of being a 55-65 point player, but he is definitely struggling this season on pace for just 47. I kind of see him as Derek Stepan, a guy who's a mediocre 1st line centre, but would be a really solid 2nd line centre, but is getting paid as if he is a number one centre.

Pretty accurate - but when looking at point totals for NSH players this season, you have to take into account that everyone is producing less than normal and generally having a bad year, save for Bonino, Grimaldi, and the defense basically. So it's a whole team thing as opposed to just him. Tough to judge a player having a bad season like this when he's not the only one

I think the value favors the Islanders, but not by a ton. I'm not a huge RyJo fan, but he definitely holds significant value if Ladd is being taken as well. It's safe to say that the Preds would be looking for a retool, not necessarily a rebuild. If a trade like this were to happen, I think it's wise for them to wait until the offseason and evaluate their options for another top six C. But I like the concept of a trade here.

I feel like they maybe tried to make him a more rounded player in Nashville which i think he is but his offensive creativity took a major hit as a result. They gave them contract expecting to build on the 30 goals / 70 points but he basically just became a better overall player instead while the offense got pushed to the side.

Frankly, five assets for one generally means whoever is giving up the one loses, and I'm not seeing that be any different here. None of those prospects are particularly enticing, and having Ladd coming back makes it really unpalatable. The 1st is nice, but it's not enough on top of the other concerns.

He was already a good overall two-way player in Columbus. He just stopped shooting in Nashville for inexplicable reasons.

I mean he was 23 when they moved him. I think it was pretty evident how he improved his two way game in Nashville. Doesn't mean he was a bad player defensively in Columbus either... i think rather than a player inexplicably forgetting to shoot, he chose to be better at both ends of the ice which cut out some of the chances he used to get to shoot the puck. Not talking about a Selke type player here but definitely improved at that position.

preds (51 points) are 6 points back of the wildcard race with 5 games in hand on the knights, 4 on the yotes, 3 on the flames, 2 on the oilers (all 57 points). with the pacific being so mediocre and the preds having a bunch of games to make up the space i don't think the doomsaying is entirely fair yet. in a couple weeks it'll be more certain if they're selling or keeping pat

I like the idea of Johansen. I'm a firm believer you need two 1Cs to contend. However, Brock has been awesome and playing like an extremely strong 2C. What we need is a 2C/3C hybrid. I think the Isles would take Turris in a cap dump swap before giving up strong assets for Johansen.

The value imo is spot on
