What’d you guys think? Which player would you take at their best?

I'd take Malkin (over Pasta) but it's close and "sheet" can the team have both LOL!

One fun aside from the pause is the Classic NHL games on TV...I can't help but think of the Cap hit from those pre-Cap clubs like DET (Yzerman, Fedorov, Ciccirelli, Lindstrom etc.) or TML (Gilmour, Clark, Andreychuk, Foligno, Potvin etc.) or CAL (Iggy, Fleury, Joe New, MacInnis, Kiprosov...) cha-ching $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$,

You could talk about line mates to back up that fact

Honest answer. As of today it HAS to be Malkin. His prime is a Hart winner. Pasta doesn't YET have ANY Hart votes...although it'll change soon.

Guys, I added another one. Who’s better between prime Evgeni Malkin & David Pastrnak?

Geno easily

Well Vegas fans would contest the 'greatness' of the SJ club and in 2016-17 w/ OTT he got to within a goal of the finals losing to the flightless birds in seven games...

As of today - only one makes The Hall...

That team was a fluke though in 2016/17. They had no business making it to the conference finals and he was by far their best player.

I think karlsson makes the hall too. 2 norris’s and 2 second place finishes. He’s a beast

Malkin. And he carried the Pens at times with Sid injured.

Yes all the big markets were able to sign big players.

He said in the PRIME/over their best, not over the entire career.
Pasta has only about 5-years NHL time so look at Malkin's first 5yrs too... (yes I think it's EM >DP but it's at least closer over that compared time-frame).

The other option is via draft comparison:
2014: Would you rather = #3 Draisaitl or #25 Pasta?

Agree Geno is one of the best players of the salary cap era but he never gets much recognition. He is a franchise player, a first ballot Hall of Famer & amongst the top 40 players of all time. I don’t get why people always fail to acknowledge him as one of the superstars in this league. He’s closer to Ovechkin’s level than he is to Pastrnak, Matthews & Eichel.

It’s not really that close. Pasta is the better goal scorer but Geno is better in all other facets. Have to keep in mind at 23, Geno won the scoring title & Conn Smythe trophy. One of the most dominant playoff performances in recent memory. Pasta’s gotten to play with elite linemates like Bergeron & Marchand whereas Geno had Talbot & Fedotenko.

For sure...still to each his own and I think it's a tad closer but yeah it's EM>DP.

I did an edit ^ ^ ^ but you beat me to it...

Edit 2: Pasta at 23 was in the Rocky R race and Hart finalist votes at least. And the playoffs for BOS was yet to be determined - NHL PAUSE....................
Guess we'll never know for sure - need more sample size maybe?

I don’t think pasta will reach the peaks that Malkin has. And I’d probably draft Drai over Pasta.

The draft #'s hold the key - BOSTON won the entire draft picking 'Primo Mama Mia Pasta Sauce' @ #25 (almost a second-rounder)....Booyeah!

That is true. Pasta at 25 is an absolute steal.
