Edited Oct. 28, 2020 at 9:33 a.m.. Reason: Lmao looking back I accidentally said Samorukov was a goalie prospect. I was thinking of Ilya Konovalov lol
I like this, Joel Eriksson Ek is a very underrated defensive forward with a bit of offensive flare to his game, with time to improve. Puljujarvi barely has space to come into his own, so I love the addition of Samorukov, a very overlooked goaltending prospect. RNH is a fantastic offensive player, Fiala is much the same. I don't know if the Wild would be smart enough to realize they're still an unreal defensive team and just need an offensive spark to get them back into contention, but I like your trade.

I think it is a very fair trade personally. But some people get crazy on here and want to rip people off. We will see what wild fans think.

    Too much term for benning
That benning trade is dumb as your only retaining 750k and on top of that ur giving a third
    Johnson is unproven.
If your gonna make a trade with the leafs, trade for kapenen

The main thing with kapenan is his potential. He is playing very well and at thetrade deadline he potentially could get a first from a team going to the playoffs. However that said he is probably staying as Toronto values him alot

One year of RNH isn't that tempting for the Wild, if they have to give up the potential and term of Faila and EK

No thanks. Fiala showed signs of being the star we haven't had since Gaborik. Don't see Guerin moving him unless it's a stupid overpayment.

Why sign Benning only to trade him with retention? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Just trade him unsigned (but qualified), let the Leafs work out a deal they're happy with.

I wouldn't do the MN deal either, I'd find something smaller with just Puljujarvi. Samorukov is a good prospect and Nugent-Hopkins is the best player in the deal - and neither of those guys need to be protected in the expansion draft.

Agreed, Fiala isn't going anywhere until they know if he's for real or not. If him and Kaprizov end up being the offensive players this team desperately needs and they find a goalie who can give them league average goaltending, the Wild could be something.

Nuge is a pending UFA Edmonton will struggle to keep given how many teams need centers and Fiala has years of team control. Fiala is the best player in the deal.

So you are going to sign a guy that no one wants, to a contract that no one would want to give him, then trade him for actual assets?

Not that they want to pay him $1Mx3, but in the long run Minnesota could just offersheet Puljujarvi $1Mx3 and I doubt Edmonton would match, because no one would want to trade anything for him and he doesn't want to play for Edmonton, so they would all just be stuck.

Fiala isn't better than Nuge. He may have a better contract situation in your opinion*, but he's not the better player.

    * I don't think this is necessarily the case as Fiala needs to be protected in the expansion draft and Nuge, as a UFA, doesn't. He can be re-signed after the draft but before July 1st, and he may not cost much more than Fiala anyhow.

    1) I want Puljujarvi. Teams want Puljujarvi. They just don't want to have to pay the asking price for him.
    2) Its not completely unheard of that a players signs a deal he wouldn't have normally signed to help facilitate a trade. Although 3 years at 1M is probably not realistic. He would want a short term term deal.
    3) Puljujarvi will not sign an OS UNLESS he knows EDM will not match. The price has to be high enough that EDM gets the price no one wants to pay. If its at a price they aren't happy with they will simply keep him and force him to play with his new contract. So its not easy.
    4) Edmonton has already resorted to knowing they will probably lose the future JP trade. Knowing this, why would they make it easy for anyone? This is the same thing with Andersson and the NYR. This is more about letting the player and future players know that you can't just sulk out of the organization. If it costs them a slightly better pick, than so be it. The ramifications of not doing it might be more costly in the long run if players know they can just refuse to sign and then be traded somewhere else.

There is more to the JP situation than meets the eye. If EDM didn't care about anything and just wanted to get rid of him, a deal would happened a long time ago.

If Nuge re-signs in Edmonton, he needs to fire his agent. He'd get a better offer from some team in free agency because plenty of teams could use him. He's certainly not staying in Edmonton at the same cap hit and given the needs Edmonton has to address, do they really want to sink $7m+ to keep him around? The ACGM above has a bunch of unlikely scenarios to free up cap space that won't happen. Flat cap and a CBO? Kings taking a guy they don't need just because?

Plus Nuge is pretty much who he is at this point, he's in his prime. Fiala keeps getting better and was showing more and more signs of being the gamebreaking player Fenton said he was. He's been generating offense playing with worse players than Edmonton has in their top 6 so he's had to do the heavy lifting to get points.

It isnt, but they will have more money to pay him what he is worth than Edmonton. So very great chance he stays. Not many teams are able to afford 7 or 8 million dollar centerman

Sorry I thought they need centerman big time as their great propects are all wingers.

Nuge is definitively the best player in the deal. Not sure what you are talking about. Center over winger with the same stats always trumps.

Not at the expense of the offensive player they need far more. If they trade for a center, it'll be a top 4 defenseman going out.
