Lafreniere is exactly the type of forward the Leafs need. A big physical guy who is willing to battle in the dirty areas, take hits & can play good defensively. Perfect compliment for Tavares & Marner.

Toronto waits for the lottery to be finished and ottawa gets the 1st pick. Dubas goes to ottawa and trades kapenan, dermott and a 2nd for said pick. Ottawa gets a speedy RW and a depth LD or RD and another 2nd for the toronto to have the rights to Lafreniere

Alexis does have a higher ceiling than Matthews. I think if he pans out he will be on the same level as Kane.

Nobody can say for sure and if so in how many years. Being good in the QMJHL does not always mean translating well to the nhl. Marner and matthews are still honing their craft and are on pace to being 100 point players. Ottawa's rebuild will probs see a good team in about 4 years so difficult to say how he will do. He may even want out by then do to the ownership.

a physical franchise winger who's likely to be a 90-100 point player is exactly the type of forward every team in the league needs.

That isn't nearly enough for the 1st overall pick.

I may change it to just marner or add a 1st to the previous package cause in that scenerio ottawa has 2 choices. Draft Laf and wait 3 years to see how he does. Or get marner and they got a playmaking rw who makes any center he is with much better and sign people to play around him. Ottawa may trade down anyways to get more picks.

Marner is better in terms of trade value, but is Melnyk really going to agree to trade for the single biggest contract in the NHL? He made $16 million this season and will make $15 million next season. If they were 3 years into the deal already when Marner only makes $8m in cash, I could see it happening. Until then, there's no way.

I have seen him do worse already. Their is a reason the team and management are compared to a tire fire. Eugene Melnyk often talks about the grand rebuild of ottawa but there is one hurdle to that rebuild and that is Eugene Melnyk himself. He had the makings of a great team in 2017 and through bad blood, disagreements, and thinking a team of younglings will be the future with veterans not being needed. Overall lets see how the rebuild goes cause with Eugene Melnyk at the helm anything can happen.

Everything except Melnyk spending money. Him being cheap is the one constant in the universe.

Honestly, I would be less surprised to see him trade the 1st round pick for significantly less than fair value than I would be if he went out and acquired big money contracts.

guy hasnt stepped foot in the NHL yet and hes gonna be better than the best goal scoring center in the NHL (2nd best overall after ovi), guy whos 6'3 220 who took a big jump in his d game this year.

i know theres not much about being a sens fan isnt fun at all so you have to try and make urself feel better by talking about a guy you may not even get, must not be nice that the only time the Canadian tire sells out is from leafs fans making it a home game in your own arena

It must be fun to be a pretender and not an actual contender and no room to improve the team. We are going to have 2 top 5 picks and manage our cap much better than you so I’m not worried. In 2 years we will be much better than you guys because we did this right and filled all our needs
