You want goals because you already have a good center, Laine is your guy

Dont have a center? Give Hughes a couple years and he will be a good one for you.

All depends on your team needs.

I'm just not sure we can evaluate the kid yet. He spent most the season peeling himself off the ice. He's small and barely out of HS. He showed flashes. But he'll get bigger and stronger and be a helluva player. Imo. I wouldn't make that deal.

I know Hughes is still young but that was A HORRIBLE rookie campaign. It's bad when Mikheyev got the same amount of points in half the games on his first time on NA ice. Even Kirby Dach is looking better. I wouldn't give up yet and I don't think he'll be a bust but but maybe he will be more like Nuger/Ekblad level then McDavid/Dahlin.

Lol I just realized you're the same person who said Kotkaniemi isnt even worth Lundell in this years draft

And here you are trading a player who had an even worst rookie campaign then KK, while being older, more hyped and getting more minutes for a top winger in the league

Hahahahah my god you're a joke

The kid hasn’t even turned 19 yet - Lecavalier had the same ppg in his rookie year, how did he turn out?

Hughes will be a 1C in 2 years , laine has unreal shooting talent and offensive instincts, but that’s about it. You don’t trade young centers with elite potential for a winger

There is no reason to trade him. He’s still on track to be a 1C sooner than later.

Mikheyev is 7 years older than Hughes and plays on a much better team

Hughes gets better ice time and yes obviously I was making a joke and Mikheyev is a man while Hughes is a boy but Toronto did also get Mikheyev for free while NJ spent a year of pain and suffering to get Hughes. Toronto basically has an extra 1st or two every year through imports. Lehtonen, Barabanov, Mikheyev, Zaitsev, etc. It is actually a little insane tbh.

HAHA u down play laine all the time watch the jets then come talk to me ur going off of his play like 2 years ago, nice Hughes had the same ppg as someone who turned out that means literally nothing he got abused this year and did not look good at all doubt he looks good next year either.

Bad for NJ?? Laine is 4yrs older and was the 2nd overall pick and Jack was 1st overall. All Laine does is score 30 goals a season including his rookie season. 2016-17 was Laine rookie season, so in the four years Laine has been in the league only 7 players have more goals than him. I don't think either team is going trade either of these players.. Saying NJ is getting the worst of this trade is funny. The 2 things Jack has the advantage in are age and draft position. Plus NJD is getting a 1st as well

Exactly. In terms of value this is laughable for the Jets. They are giving up double value. But Hughes still has the highest potential. There's more chance to his game, but it's too early to eliminate that chance.

No way the jets say yes to this, NJ would have to add significantly, not WPG. That difference would cause NJ to decline.

the main reason NJ wants an elite sniper on the wing like Laine is so that they can have a triggerman for Hughes, doesn't make a ton of sense for either side and Devils aren't giving up on Jack after 1 season

I agree but if you can get Laine and then draft a centre and a D this draft, it wouldnt be too bad
