Conclusion: NHL GM's don't know how to evaluate d men, there were SO many other bad contracts I could have put on here (plus a bunch of complete steals, I think that's more luck than anything)
Also don't give goalies lots of money, they're not that good
I had to do a bit of "projecting" for some of the forward contracts, I didn't feel like putting guys that made like 3x3 on here, even if they are terrible
He's been consistently inconsistent (1 great year followed by a bad year, then a great year followed by a bad one etc) and he was completely misused this yr, plus he still had pretty good underlying numbers
Bc he's an average goalie making 9.5 mil, being buoyed up by fantastic defense
Fantastic defense? Outside of Hedman who is fantastic? McDonagh was injured most of the season. Next you're going to tell me Rinne was mediocre because of Nashville's defense?
Also why is Keith on this list? Hes still a top pairing caliber guy and only has 3 years left at a reasonable price.

I meant to say team defense... Big difference lol, Cernak is also very good at that, plus Cirelli is fantastic defensively, Point an Kuch are well above average, Gourde is really good, Coleman could be getting Selke talk, and just about every other player can at least hold their own defensively (plus when they're so good offensively, they spend a ton of time 150-200 feet away from Vasy...)
I would be adding Zuccarrello amd Pavelski to this list. Alzner too...... hard to argue it's not a bad contract when he is playing in Laval. Not sure he meets the cap hit criteria though.
I agree Keith really doesn't belong. He can still play.....

I was debating between Zucc and one of the bottom few forwards (I didn't want to hate on the wild too much 😂) Pavelski can still play, plus it's only two more years, not a good contract by any means, but I don't think it's one of the WORST, and yeah, Alzner's is definitely bad, but it wasn't quite as bad as some of the other d men, he just doesn't make as much (especially buried) as some of the other guys
Keith has fallen off quite hard recently, he's not that good any more, but I could see all argument for a guy like Alzner's being worse
