That's somethin I'd do. Or maybe Lehkonen and STL 2nd for Okposo (1 million retain) and 7th OA.

Okposo is still really good in the role he plays on the 4th line. His contract sucks, but he isn’t the problem.

Wouldn't say he's terrible but obvisouly a new GM will change things up and rather quickly so while Buffalo has less than a million under the cap we could see him being moved to make room for a free agency splash. (Hall? Toffoli? Grandlund? Hoffman? or offersheet someone?)

If we use the 2020 pick, it needs to be for a 2nd line center with term who can also play on the wing in the future. Targets: Strome (either), Domi, Hertl, Johansen etc. The 2021 pick is not being moved because no one knows what it's value will be. I'd much rather trade Montour over Miller and would like to keep Risto for at least 1 more season. Nevertheless trading a RHD needs to happen and it should be for a speedy RW that can play in the top 6. Targets: Kapanen, Tuch, R. Strome, Anderson etc. We are stuck with Okposo and keeping him is better than dumping and paying for it, unless a team like Minnie would swap him for Zucc. Would not trade Samuelsson, we need LHD in the pipeline. Laaksonen hasn't proved he can play well in NA yet so I don't think he holds value for other teams. I'd keep Asplund unless Larsson resigns for 2-3 years. Borgen I want to keep for sure, big dark-horse in the organization. Although keeping him is redundant unless we move 2 RHD

Buffalo is going to have about 37 million in cap space next year. Even with having to resign players they have no major contracts coming up and will have plenty of room to make FA or RFA pushes. If cap space is needed in a year or two moving him will be much easier with with less time on the deal and won't have to give up a top 10 pick up

He means of course any team would take a 7th OA for a capfump, it’s stupid thinking a GM will trade maybe a top6/top4 forward/dman for a capdump.

oh.

But that's why I add the second, so that you get something in value in return for 7OA.

Lehkonen is Bergevin ‘’ protégé ‘’ and Buffalo doesn’t need LW ( Skinner Olofsson Kahun Johansson )

Very, very, very accurate.

As a guy who's had to deal with twice as many crummy teams as you guys, let me offer some advice:

1. Patience. Patience, patience, patience. It may be almost overwhelmingly tempting to trade that 7th overall pick for temporary help, but it's just that. And @Skyraider112 is right: that 2021 first should be off limits, too, even to an offer to top-5 or top-3 protect. You guys are Cozens-maturing away and either Mittelstadt or Thompson becoming useful from turning into playoff contenders. It won't happen this year so don't do anything whose primary purpose is to achieve that.

2. Your core is Olafsson, Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Jokiharju and UPP. Everyone else is expendable (except, of course the prospects mentioned above). Get the best deal you can for Montour or Ristolainen and keep the other. Trade everyone else you can for a reasonable price, including Johansson and Miller. Next season won't be pretty but in 2021-2022 you'll have a defense with at least a year under its belt as a cohesive, functional unit and a top-6 that should be ready to produce.

I wouldn’t. Since Okposo’s contract means you can’t afford someone like Tatar, so it’s more like:

Tatar + 40th for 7th Overall + Okposo

Which is pretty bad.

Trade Tatar so 7th OA + another 1st rd pick that means 2 picks in the top10 + another one around 20-30 + something.

Thats why I mentioned that if need be, dumping him after next season will be cheaper then this summer and every year forward it gets cheaper
