I dont think Anderson signs for 3 years at 2.6 million. He might do 1 year at that to get his value back up.

Kerfoot for McGinn?

Why not trade Andersen for a draft pick instead

understandably but, the guy is a hard hitting 50 point capable winger. I dont see him taking that low of a deal for 3 years. I cant see him doing multiple years unless he is in the 5 million range.

It's a flat cap for a while. Everyone thinks people are going to get more than they are and honestly, that isn't going to happen. Everyone is taking a hit on what they thought they were going to make. That's just how it is.

You're not getting a first rounder from a rebuilding team in exchange for a 30 year old goalie with one year left before unrestricted free agency

Then he’ll go somewhere else. He plays physical and scores goals. That’s the ideal playstyle in the playoffs and there will always be a market for that. He isn’t signing for decent term and low money just because it’s convenient for your cap.

I don’t know why people keep re-signing Clifford. The 3rd you gave up upgrades to a 2nd if he re-signs. I’m sure there’s another physical 4th liner you can sign to not play in the playoffs.

Ottawa is not giving up a 1st for one year of a 31 year old goalie when they’re rebuilding wtf

Kings pass and Leafs probably would pass too, Roy is fitting in very well into the King's system and playing top 4 minutes not sure why they would move him unless someone offered the Leafs offered something couldn't say no to like Mikko Lehtonen. As for why the Leafs should pass, team-friendly contracts like Engvalls and Holl will be huge for a cap-strapped team like the Leafs in the future.

Also, Clifford isn't taking half of what he was paid the prior year.

I read CLB has offered Anderson $2.1m for 1 year or $1.9m/3 years. Would expect a lot of RFAs would lock into 3 year "bridge deals" with flat cap for 3 years. $2.35m -$2.5m would likely be a good deal for Anderson, wherever he lands.

Man to have the problem where a guy scores 47 points and was garbage on this team.

I get the desire to hold on to your prospects, but the ducks make out like bandits in that deal. As a Leaf fan, I’m trying to figure out why we’re all so intent on banishing Nylander and Marner into the cap dump category. It’s mind boggling! We’re talking about 2 point producing wingers that are under 24 years old. The trades I’m seeing in a lot of these AGM’s are disturbingly undervaluing the worth of both of these players. Granted Marner got a paid too early and Nylander is only now living up to his contract, I’m not so sure Dubas is going to be willing to move either short of an overpayment.

People can say “good luck getting out of the 1st round” all they want, but if you just give away high end talent for lesser talents just to save a little cap space, that’s worse asset management than overpaying your top talent by a couple of million.

I’d gladly do a different prospect, but Steel Comtois and Zegras are all big no no’s when it comes to trades

And that’s fair and I wouldn’t knock you for it. They are all good prospects, Anaheim needs to hold on to top 6 potential talent seeing as they are in a rebuild. But the bottom line for me is, Toronto can not give up a guy who is a top 6 winger on any team in this league for cents on the dollar.

Terry can play center so if it were him instead of steel I wouldn’t have too much of a problem, tho I am very weary of giving him up.

Much like Dougie's first 2 months here, I wonder if his shoulder was already hurt and that is why he was sucking this year. The fight just aggravated beyond playing capability or he was advised to just sit it out and get it fixed. Either way, he has shown he can produce and would be foolish to take on a long term deal with that low of a AAV. Easily would take him on the Canes. He is Ferland but hopefully we get him before the shoulder injuries put him out of hockey.

We really don't want to do a winger swap with Andy. Adding the 2nd makes it slightly more appealing, but I think I'd rather take the Andy gamble, honestly.

Valid points in there but everyone that's contending in the playoffs is up against the cap because it's a flat cap. Most teams are looking to sign star players with no cap space. They aren't going to pay out the ass for anybody period. This isn't your standard offseason. My point was simply that everyone looking for a contract is going to take a hit. Everyone, without exception. Your assuming 90% of the League has a **** ton of cap space for a physical guy who can score goals to get a contract like the cap went up.
