Mantha and Domi

Created by: TheWolfe
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2020
Published: Sep. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With all the rumors circulating around Domi I thought this would be an interesting trade.

Detroit gets a guy who can play center if they need him to, can score and be a point producer and, plus is scrappy even if he's undersized.

Montreal gets the big French Canadian winger they've always wanted who could easily have a big breakout year.

I could see Detroit wanting another piece or asset which I think would be fair as Mantha probably has a higher ceiling than Domi. But as always, the question with him is will he actually reach it. What are your thoughts?

We've been watching this guy for years... Everyone is quick to tell us how good he is. We just keep waiting to see it. At least it seems like he learned how to pick his feet up for more than 2 strides successively this year

Now watch him go net 40 goals

Domi has scored 28 goals only once
Mantha has never scored 28 goals
Domi has recorded 70 points once in his career
Mantha has never reached 50 points in a season

And therin lies the conundrum of Mantha. I have no doubt that he could do it. But it hasn't happened yet

Mantha > Domi

Domi use to play scrappy/agitator but he doesn’t play like that anymore. He isn’t great defensively and poor on FO but is underrated in his play making. He just recently fired his agent (Brisson) who is a close friend to Bergevin too. He isn’t going to be cheap based on who he hired as his new agency.

This has been discussed probably a hundred times the past week and Detroit would want Suzuki or KK and Montreal doesn’t want to give them up so probably not the best trading partners.

Domi shot 60% higher than his average for those 28 goals. Mantha has 84G in 240 games while Domi has 81G in 375 games...

Mantha has been on pace for 70+ the past 1.5 years but let’s continue this narrative.

All probably true but Mantha speaks French so that alone is worth at least a 1st rounder in that market right?

It's not about value Detroit doesn't want to trade Mantha. It's not a tough concept to grasp my 5yr old nephew understands it.

From an outsider with no bias towards each player I’d want Mantha on my team 101 times out of 100 over domi.

You can't even compare the 2, both in ability and value to his respective team. Mantha is not being moved for Domi, regardless of add.

You're talking Romanov, or nothing.

That brings up another downfall to Mantha over Domi. Domi is more durable and misses less games to injury. They have both been in the league for 5 years that means out of a possible 410 games Mantha has missed 2 full seasons plus due to injury. That does not make him more valuable when you consider that Domi has only missed 35 games. Also what would Domi's totals have looked like IF he was played at center in Arizona? I would rather have a center capable of putting up 50+ points a year while only having missed a total of 35 games over 5 seasons than a winger who has never hit 50 points and has missed 170 games due to injury over 5 years or 2 full years worth. Call me crazy but that is a seriously fragile player!

Almost all of Mantha's injuries have been complete flukes. Luckily Holland left us with an unbelievably unbalanced team, forcing Mantha to take on a role he doesn't want or need to. No one who watches the Wings would consider Mantha injury prone.

LMAO Juulsen who had 2 fluke eye injuries in 1 game has no value because he is injury prone as many have said. But Mantha who missed 170 games in 5 years fluke injuries or not is somehow more valuable. Talk about a double standard wow. It does not matter if he has 1 major injure that put him out for 2 years or 7 fluke injuries. When you miss 170 games out of 410 you are going to be labeled as injury prone and your value will be diminished.

So why do you want Mantha? You've (not just you but the Montreal fans who won't let it go) spent the last couple days telling Detroit fans how bad Mantha is but you still want him on Montreal?

I never said Romanov wasn't better than Mantha. but its a moot point since Detroit isn't trading Mantha.
