Exactly. They are close though, and if Buffalo adds Jokiharju, I'd do it.

Matthews is gobs more elite than Eichel, eichel only has one season where he cracked 30 goals. Matthews got 40 in his rookie year, and since then has been at a minimum a 30 goal scorer.

Maybe because Eichel is on a worse team idk, but Matthews is a generational talent and he'll go down (if he stays) as perhaps the greatest leaf of all time, no way I'd trade him

They have the same point production since Matthews has entered the league.

Buffalo easily declines this trade. Mathews is injury prone has played with an elite offensive team and has had Johnny T taking all the tough matchups. He hasn’t he even been able to make it past the first round with elite team. Meanwhile Jack has played with no one and put up elite numbers. He is better defensively and most important thing is his contract is ALOT BETTER!!!!

Even if Matthews is better (a debate for many years down the road imo) the difference isn’t a 20 YO RHD that’s looked solid and shown top line promise.

A hockey team isn't comprised of one guy. I guess Barzal is better than McDavid because he's had more playoff success?

Also, between contract structure (NMC for eichel, signing bonuses and general frontloading) plus the fact there's only a $1.6M difference in the deals (albeit for 3 less years), I'd argue the contracts are similar considering the player difference. Eichel is not even remotely in the same realm as Matthews in goal scoring. He just isn't.

Since EICHEL entered the league (he gets a year head start), matthews has 5v5 113G, 190P, eichel has 78 goals and 185 points in 72 more games played.

Also, I don't fully excuse him for having a bad team, because it didn't stop McDavid or Draisaitl, or any star young players on rebuilding teams. It's a factor, but cmon matthews is way better

Matthews has 28 more goals than Sundin did in his first 4 seasons with the leafs, and Sundin had the benefit of being older when he got traded to the leafs.

Nothing is proven yet, but if Matthews plays his whole career here, I could see him being considered the greatest leaf of all time

The guy is 23 and he already broke Wendel's rookie scoring record and nearly caught Vaive in the scoring race if the season wasn't cut short

Sorry bud. Matthews is better. You say Eichel is better because his team sucks. Maybe you should look in reverse. The sabres are good because Eichel is not as good as Matthews.

His contract is not that much better, it’s just longer. Also, Matthews is much better defensively.

Jokiharju has been good, but not crazy good. He’s what Buffalo would need to give up if they want to upgrade to Matthews. Until Eichel makes the playoffs, there will be no Matthews Eichel debate.

Nobody is right, and nobody is wrong. This is going to be the next “Crosby vs Ovechkin” or “Gretzky vs Lemieux”. It doesn’t matter, we can all agree to disagree. Matthews is one hell of a player, so is Eichel. If Matthews was a Sabre today, and Eichel was a Leaf, whose not to say we’d not be having this exact conversation?

Here’s all I’m saying, it’s going to be an interest 15-20 years moving forward.

Honestly i think Matthews is a little better but his contract is worse and not as long plus there are a lot of rumors of him going to Arizona so that is kind of worrying. If I’m Toronto, I’d try to get rid of Marner and trade Matthews for Eichel and also try to get rid of Tavares and all of sudden they wont have a culture of ridiculous contracts and might be able to build an actual team to win

Exactly, I’d say Eichel has more value due to his contract but they are pretty much tied with the slight advantage going to Matthews imo

there are literally no rumours of him going to arizona other than people who hate the leafs hoping and praying he does. and that's hilarious considering there is a forrest fire worth of smoke out of buffalo about eichel wanting out.
also, holy crap i hope you become the GM of the habs because those moves are teeeeeeerrrrrrrible

Terrible? Like the Leafs playoff performance over the past 50 years? How many years in a row have y’all not made it to the second round? Please remind me, I forgot. Also, at this point Tavares is not worth 11M, i doubt you’d find any non-leaf fan who would trade for him without retention. Marner is great but also paid too much. And Eichel because of contracts is worth more than Matthews.

Oh like when there were 5 other teams? All I said was Matthews contract is worse despite him being better. I’d take Eichel for contract reasons. That’s not an attack on Matthews. I prefer Mcdavid but id take Mack for contract reasons. Also think Marner and Tavares are way overpaid (especially Tavares). At least Marner is pacing for 90-95 points for multiple seasons.
