Elliotte Friedman says Laine trade likely

Created by: bunzy1034
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 1, 2020
Published: Oct. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The LA Kings, Islanders, and the Flyers are teams apparently in the mix.

This is probably the type of package the Jets would ask for. Turcotte would be a main target as someone who has surefire top 6 upside in the future and someone who I think is NHL ready already. Matt Roy who was a very steady defenceman for a poor kings team and a high draft pick. Not sure if the Kings go through with this but this is what the Jets would be asking for.

Friedman also mentions that it looks like Little is done for good.

Not sure it will be Turcotte, they hired his old coach John Wroblewski (NTDP) as the coach of their AHL affiliate. More likely I see the Kings offering Kupari. Not sure the Kings have the player to cover for Roy but it's tempting. Kupari, Roy, and a pair of 2nd rounders, or the Kings are ok waiting.

Fat chance of LA moving Turcotte for Laine, He'd be the last one Blake would move.

Yeah that's what I thought, they could also just select Byfield at 2 as a likely better replacement, but I think Turcotte is going to bring a lot of value to the league so I doubt they move him

I feel like the kings will stay the course and not trade for Laine, but this is a fair trade IMO

Seems like the rumour is that the Kings select Stutzle not Byfield at 2. By that metric, they aren't trading their available centers. Id count the Kings out

Yeah that sounds correct honestly, don't see why they would want to rush the rebuild, but they are just one of the teams mentioned. Ultimately I think the Islanders and Flyers are better suitors for Laine.

How is it rushing the rebuild if they trade from their abundance of young talent to acquire a 22/23 year old player

True but it really depends on how much they value Turcotte. I would say he is a top 10 prospect in the NHL right now, and then Matt Roy was also a really good defender for them this year. Although they could just draft Byfield at 2 for a direct (and likely better) replacement.

They’re going for Stutzle. Pronman said it and a few other analysts including from the Kings organization.

If they were going Byfield then sure but some well connected people like Corey Pronman are saying from scouts that the Kings really love Stutzle. I think he framed it as 75% chance its him. How he got to that number i have no clue. 3/4, 6/8 scouts lol

The Wahlstrom/Toews for Laine idea is growing on me (just a little bit), but I just don't see how the Isles make it work money-wise. At the most, Toews is getting like $4.75 million per year this offseason, so it's not like we're getting any cap space, meaning we're going to have to do even more to get under the cap that we already are going to have to. I just don't see a pathway, unless we're making bigger moves, which I think starts to border on being counterproductive.

Hopefully the Kings grab him lol, they're my number 3 and that would put them very close to being a playoff team in 2021 imo

Yeah it's hard to argue against that, at the moment Stutzle's versatility should be very appealing to the Kings, could be a top line center or be a top line winger for Turcotte in the future.

Kings certainly lucked out at number 2. Maybe the jets should realize the same after they won lottery at 2 and trade Laine for crying out loud already or actually get him a decent center instead of Andrew Copp. Chevy the master of standing pat

When/if a Laine trade happens, it’s not going to be fair. The Jets will either win rly big or lose rly big

What depressing news, Chevy's a loser if he trades Laine, Selanne trade 2.0 for this team in the middle of nowhere, a star is dropped in your lap and you're gonna trade him already, sounds like an organization that doesn't know they're no longer just an NHL farm team.

I dont understand how they can submarine his value so bad. There are 2nd line centres available. Build up Laine's value if you're gonna trade him or at least stop talking about trading him
