I think with the Toronto trade they clear almost 4 mil in can get a cheaper 2c (not as good but still a good 2c) get an extra year and a better deal with kuemper and add a good center prospect they if they chose they could flip

Matthews has been putting up generational-player GPG numbers. Like, top 10 all time. Maybe that lasts, maybe it doesn't, but trading him for a slightly overpaid 2 C + a good prospect, and whatever the small amount of surplus that Kuemper is worth over Andersen is just a straight up bad move.

As much as I think Matthews going to Arizona at some point in his career would be cool, it's probably more likely that the team isn't even in Arizona by the time he's able to make it happen.

Garland, Kuemper, Keller, Hayton would be a good start

So you posted a completely insulting trade and then yelled at the fans who would have to suffer because of it... wow... it's like a violent tantrum but online

Hayton was a huge reach and honestly one of the worst draft selections in a while, no exaggeration he was best suited to ~20th with such a deep class

I had Veleno & Berggren ranked ahead of him even

Neutral fan here, that Matthews trade is bad. If you're moving out an elite player you need to get an elite player back or make it a substantial overpay.

As far as Roslovic for Demers, that's a pass from the Jets. Not looking to move Roslovic for a rental.

Chevy has been making some bad trades for awhile now but I don't think he's making this one.

Perhaps retention on Keller, like 30% or so.

Oh. In that case Arizona probably passes. What about a 2nd round pick, instead?

Nah I don't think the leafs would want picks that's the thing they will want ready now players that can help with their current roster

Arizona is reportedly looking to save money. Retaining $2M for seven years on their best player doesn't exactly do that.

I'm not saying they would want to, I'm just saying that is likely the ask from Toronto, so if Arizona is desperate for Matthews they may do it, but if they don't the leafs likely say no and look elsewhere. Again even if the leafs traded Matthews now, it wouldn't HAVE to be Arizona. It could be any team in the league. Someone will pay a kings ransom for him

Sure they would, but not under a flat cap. And under a flat cap, building a winner around Matthews is really challenging. He's better for novelty value on a team whose fans are excited just to make the playoffs, at 10M cap hit. So $14M of retention on Keller is out. 50% for two years on Kuemper, though? Sure.
