It's 7 forwards and 3 defensemen; or you can protect 8 skaters regardless of position (if you want to protect more than 3 D)

is mikheyev gonna be eligible to expose?

as it stands right now, it looks like we could protect 8 skaters: the big 4 forwards, rielly, muzzin, brodie, dermott (unless dermott doesn't sign an extension and seattle definitely won't take him for fear of his arb case), and campbell

We'd leave kerfoot/engvall, holl, and hutch exposed

of that group I'd prob like Holl to be taken tbh

And make a deal with Seattle to give up a pick in order to not lose Dermott

I'd wager Dermott's heading to Seattle.

Capfriendly has him listed as exempt. I believe his khl time does not count towards his 2 years. I think it is only ahl/nhl seasons while under contract.

Is this correct @Banks ?

Mikheyev doesn't need a protection slot.

Feels like Toronto will have to be very fussy in how they allocate gp to the youngsters this year to avoid the gp threshold for protection and I imagine they signed alot of free agents in part for this purpose, IIRC the threshold was 40 one year/70 over two or so?

There isnt a games played threshold for protection, only for the required exposure slots.

If the leafs sign him to an extension certainly they will protect him and If they don’t Seattle could still pick him and negotiate a contract with him before free agency

He's not on an ELC, so he is exposed

I don't think Mikheyev is eligible to be selected. So Dermott is really the xfactor in this. If he takes Holl's job this year and becomes a legit top 4 option, then you have to protect him, and expose Kerfoot. If Dermott doesn't take a step, then protect 7 + 3, and Holl/Dermott becomes the most likely option to be grabbed.

Hyman would not be eligible to be exposed if he doesn’t sign a new deal. I would assume if Toronto does come to an agreement with Hyman it isn’t signed till after the expansion.

Elc has nothing to do with exposure. Think he is protected by the two year pro rule.

He would not qualify as one of the 2 forwards who meet the requirement but could still be picked

I would love nothing more than Seattle to pick Hyman only to lose him to the leafs in ufa but it’s not going to happen.

Mikheyev is exempt but your plan exposes Hyman.

If Hyman isn't protected by the Leafs, Seattle will be allowed the opportunity to negotiate with him before the expansion draft and if they come to terms on a deal, he would become their selection.

It's not something I'm too worried about, tbh (I also think the he and the Leafs will work out a deal and wait until after the ED to sign it with the understanding that he won't negotiate with Seattle), but even as a UFA the only way to guarantee Seattle can't select him is to use a protection slot on him.

Nothing would make me happier than Seattle taking Hyman. He hits ufa and signs with leafs and Seattle gets absolutely nothing from Toronto.

In all reality they would want nothing to do with Hyman. They would take one of engvall or hall.

They might make Hyman an offer he can't refuse.

But in real life, they wouldn't.

If they were to take Hyman they would be allowed to negotiate a deal with him beforehand.
