I'm not sure Duncan Keith belongs over guys like Pesce and Girard.

Here's where my mind is at:
- Makar definitely was the better defenseman... up until January. My fandom didn't influence this list - if it did, yeah whatever call me out on it.
- I think Hughes surpassed Makar in the back end of the year and definitely the playoffs.
- Makar without a doubt was the rightful calder winner.

Karlsson should be top 10-20 (subjectively, personally I’d say top 13-17) Doughty shouldn’t even be here, he is brutal, I’d move mcavoy and Werenski higher, Hughes and Makar have one season on the resume I think they’re fine/ maybe a couple spots higher

I did not build this list caring at all of what the advanced stat people have to say.

I'm keeping him and Karlsson higher on this list for now. They are not so dreadful that they are yeeted into oblivion.

Maybe I'm just biased, but my personal list would have Morgan Rielly higher. Makar and Hughes are a bit low too.

I actively tried to push the two of them higher but wasn't finding it. I think Spurgeon is severely underrated and I like his place on the top 20. In general I think McAvoy is quite overrated.

For most of this list I essentially was just l ooking at 2 guys at a time and questioning who of them is better.

I don't want to put the cart before the horse with Makar and Hughes. Consistency had a reasonable impact on this list. Same reason Doughty and Karlsson are still here as I based it on a declining trend rather than their place only this year.

Rielly belongs to the 12-17 range. Any higher is overrating.

After this season, I somewhat understand it, but I agree he's a top 10 defenceman. Nowdays, that a very unpopular opinion.

A lot of mcavoys case comes defensively - he’s a good two way but much more defensive

Karlsson has the right to the spot but honestly I thought Doughty wasn’t good before I looked through his stats but he’s just been god awful - he brings leadership and experience LA needs for the kids but not much more.

Rielly should be top 10-11 IMO but I can see how he’s top15 easily, I’d have him higher than karlsson but this is a !subjective post!

You don't need to look at Doughty's advanced stats to know he's awful. He's essentially Edler while being paid 11mil

That's perfectly fair critizism. There is the possiblity that they won't get any better, but they should. As for Rielly, I guess it depends. Are you looking at the 2018-19 Rielly? Or the 2019-20 Rielly? I tend to look at the 18-19 Rielly. But this season was just as much a season as last (not quite haha), so putting him where you put him is perfectly fair. Just telling you what my list would look like.

And yet we still see those moronic Marner for Doughty trades.....

Thanks for telling your opinion on Rielly by the way.

Marner is worthy of a guy in 17-27 range kinda depends on the name, the team, the situation (money, cap, position, etc) but I dislike marner and still hold this opinion.

Doughty isn’t even top 50 imo so Yeha lol - doesn’t fit the “range”.

Rielly is very good, last year I rated him I think 5th-6th, times have changed but if we’re counting everything Rielly brings (INCLUDING a 5 m cap hit) - he’s a very strong core piece for a team needing a top pairing defender. I believe he’s captain material too and he still has room to improve

He isn't amazing. Just has the lore of being a high draft pick. In my opinion Klefbom is the best oilers defenseman, and I have him in the 40 range. Nurse would be in the 50-60 area.
