Why? You can get more for Fleury and lots more if you send him to Chicago. And why so much for Athanasiou? You can get him for less than half that.

Exactly this. This is the blocker. Zero chance MAF waives for Detroit, unless part of the deal includes Detroit retaining money and flipping him to a contender. Even then, better be one hell of a return for 2 years of dead cap.

Wings and MAF aren't a fit but Wings could be used as a 3rd party to retain cap and then send him to a more preferred destination if the return is worthwhile

Laine produced the same as Pacioretty last season but is 10 (TEN!) years younger. Glass isn't certain to be a good enough player to make up for that, let alone when you're taking important players like Lowry as well. Jets decline.

Obviously Vegas would do (if they could figure out the cap) the Winnipeg trade while the Jets would give it no consideration at all.

Not a terrible trade as a base but Vegas adds a lot just based on Patches age (doesn’t he have a NMC?).
That said I hate Vegas with a passion and would probably stop watching Winnipeg if Chevy traded any of our young core to them.
