The best landing spots for PLD imo

Trades
CBJ
  1. Barzal, Mathew [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Only offering this scenario because with the Barzal holdout you know fans are gonna speculate (btw I think Barzal stays an Isle irl)
NYI
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc
  2. Pu, Cliff
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
CBJ likely adds but a Barzal contract would have to be worked out to clear the deal for CBJ
CBJ
  1. Danault, Phillip
  2. Poehling, Ryan
  3. Ylönen, Jesse
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
I think a contract extension has to be in the works (even if it’s only like 1-3 years) (Montreal also would have to make some sort of move to fix the cap in this scenario, nothing large but they’d need to move Byron or something just cause Dubois is 2 mil more then Danault).

Tatar is here mainly for cap reasons.
MTL
    PLD
    CBJ
    1. Laine, Patrik
    2. Roslovic, Jack [RFA Rights]
    Additional Details:
While this trade is a good candidate I do not think CBJ takes it.
We have to remember CBJ is losing their number one C. Without PLD they’re running:

    Domi
    Koivu
    Grigerenko (whatever)
    Foudy + Bemstrom

They’ll have no real 1C and it’ll hurt the team plus adding more wingers to a team loaded with wingers isn’t helpful (cam Atkinson, Foligno, texier, bemstrom/ foudy, bjorkstrand, nyquist, Robinson). Roslovic wouldn’t be given top6 time like he desires.
    WPG
    1. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
    PLD

think CBJ need to add but idk so I just tossed in a second but I don’t like them as trade partners so idc I don’t think they work
    CBJ
    1. Norris, Joshua
    2. White, Colin
    3. 2021 2nd round pick (SJS)
    4. 2022 2nd round pick (TBL)
    Additional Details:
I don’t think many people propose Ottawa but I think Ottawa is just so crazy right now they’d take a swing at this.

Maybe add Logan brown instead of two seconds??? Idk. This trade still needs work but I think Ottawa is a candidate. I’m not sold on white being a top line Center candidate as he’s played wing a good amount so that’s why I’m iffy on the exact proposal.
    OTT
      PLD
      CBJ
      1. Karlsson, William
      2. Krebs, Peyton
      Additional Details:
Idk I see Vegas being Vegas and wanting every asset in the league. This trade is very good for CBJ imo.

None of these trades are me saying “this is the trade yup ship it”. Some of them are rough drafts like Ottawa especially as I’m not sold on white being a piece CBJ wants to bet on. But I think these are the most logical spots for PLD to land (yes the isles too even tho I highly doubt Barzal is traded).

I think with the exception of the jets trade, all of them are really really really bad for columbus.

Granted, i am much lower on barzal than most people.

Isles aren’t trading barzal, but I would trade him only if bjorkstrand and PLD were a part of the return. It’s a bit of an overpay, but it doesn’t make sense for the isles to trade barzal so that’s what it would take.

I think the isles say no and I only really like the Vegas idea but they all need work. Ottawa is bad for Columbus as I stated in the explanation as it just doesn’t work because of White. The Montreal isnt bad for CBJ but it’s not good either, I’d rather 1 quality prospect cause I don’t like Poehling at all but I doubt Caufields on the table same with Romanov. I like krebs a lot as to why I like the Vegas idea.

Barzal is never gonna be traded unless he asks. I wouldn’t trade Barzal unless I got a definite overpay either

The worst was Ottawa. That was nauseatingly bad.

Idk about Vegas being in. But yup.

I think if he become available he ends up in Montreal. Everyone else is lining up to be also rans. Unless Barzal was offered.

Montreal has Suzuki, KK, or Danault to use as a centerpiece to help fill the center void. And they have a pile of picks and prospects. Hard to imagine anyone outbidding them. And you know the idea of a guy named Pierre-Luc Dubois playing 1C in Montreal has them creaming themselves.

I can agree with Bcarlo on this one, the jets trade doesn’t make much sense. Koivu isn’t a top 6 center anymore and we have no proven top 6 centers after Domi (if you consider him one). If PLD gets traded a center would have to be in the return, plus Laine wouldn’t fit in Columbus with torts and his lack of playing defence.

I also doubt PLD gets traded.

That’s what I laid out on the WPG trade it doesn’t work for the jackets they always need a Center coming back. All the other trades focus on a Center with Vegas/ Montreal being my favourite spots but both trades needing work.
Karlsson Krebs is good, but the MTL needs better prospects.

I think PLD will be traded tbh but not now. Maybe in year 2 of the deal. But I doubt this year unless it’s at TDL and Columbus sucks (which I don’t think Columbus sucks).

Look to PLD like what happened with Anderson tbh. It’s kind of a similar situation tbh, just a much more important player to the team.

Danault+ could definitely work for Montreal, but I have no idea why the Blue Jackets would do that.

For Montreal we’d be willing to give up any prospect other than Caufield, Romanov, Norlinder, or Primeau. Maybe Guhle because of how much management likes him.

So the best available prospect would be Myšák or this year’s first.

We also wouldn’t be opposed to trading Tatar, providing that this trade doesn’t make the team worse right now.

So maybe the best we could do is:

      To Columbus:
      Phillip Danault (with extension)
      Brett Kulak
      Jan Myšák
      2021 MTL 2nd

      To Montreal:
      Pierre-Luc Dubois

But I doubt that would cut it for CBJ, and it would make things a lot tougher cap-wise for us.

I really feel Minnesota is a low key landing spot as well, and should be on this list. Especially if we could swing a three team trade in the mix.

I could see a basis of a trade where Winnipeg gets Dumba, Columbus gets either Laine or Ehlers, and Minnesota gets Dubois.

From the Wild's perspective it'd also likely cost us one or more of Fiala, Kaprizov, Eriksson-Ek or Boldy but I think it could get done.

Furthermore everyone thinks they'd want a young center back. But I'm not so sure. Both Johnson and Beniers in this years coming draft both look to project around as good as Rossi, if not better. In 2022 there's Wright and Lambert.

Move Dubois, your guaranteed a lottery pick this year and next. Coming out of it with better and greater depth at scoring and possibly an even better center just for moving him and going into a quick two year rebuild process. Not the worst of plans.

The whole reason to acquire PLD would be to to have a top 6 of Wild Bill + PLD. Given that I’d think something like Glass/Krebs + Tuch + minor cap for PLD would make sense for VGK not sure about Columbus though.

Poehling should absolutely not be in the NHL this year. They’d probably look like:

      Toffoli - Dubois - Gallagher
      Drouin - Suzuki - Anderson
      Byron - Kotkaniemi - Armia
      Lehkonen - Evans - Perry

But this is all assuming full health. Which obviously won’t happen. And it doesn’t really send a good message to the team if you trade away 2/3 of your top line and only get 1 player who is about as good as one of those players back. The lines do look really good if you add Caufield, but they look even better if you add Caufield to our current lines.

Thats perfectly true. I mean, Id love Dubois because of the player obviously, but after losing our only chance in a Quebec superstar (Laf) in a long time, it would be awesome to still get one in PLD. But yeah, our team is really solid as it is and adding Caufield to our current forward lines is sublime to say the least...

      Drouin-Suzuki-Toffoli
      Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
      Caufield-KK-Anderson
      Lehkonen-Evans-Armia

The only problem that I have here is Tatar.... Im pretty sure theyll keep Danault, but Tatar could be lost for nothing by next year. If we could include him in a trade (or a 3-way trade) for a younger LW it would be perfect.
