Wishful thinking

Created by: TJTwolf
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 24, 2021
Published: Jan. 28, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So the MTL trade was about 50/50 on uptake. Big edit after more input from Sens fans, and from the little feedback on Sissons it should be close. I left out the CAR trade as Slavin instead of Girard was basically irrelevant to cap and the rest of the roster even if a slight improvement on the D corps. There's enough cap to sign Danault to an extension at 5.5m and the following year is basically manageable one way or another.

Not from the red wings, if you trade him elsewhere that is correct, if it's insisting on being the wings then avs pay for us to take him, not the other way around. We are not trading picks for these types of players at all during this rebuild. If you want the cap relief and it's to wings you pay. If it's to a playoff team you get your pick.

I doubt too many playoff teams will have the cap space but you may well be right on the Wings.

Danault would need to be extended immediately for this to work. Can't be going into next season with Tierney as 2C.

Yep there's space to do it, that was something I worked in hence the reason for the trying to 'dump' cap when I was doing the trades one by one. This was the 'put it all together' version. None of it is beyond Super Joe lol.

Thanks for the kind comment, don't get them too often LMAO. Yeah giving up Foudy would suck as I agree with you, but got to give to get. I think Danault is an upgrade, though only small, over Kadri. Signing him as a UFA and keeping both him and Kadri would be tough on the cap situation, hence both teams get something from the deal but yes, it does depend on getting Danault signed so there'd need to be at least some indication of that.

Kindness ain't exactly rampant around here. Gotta be at least a bit if a glutton for punishment to post these things, lol.

Absolutely agree on the panic button aspect (normally us saying that to you isn't it :P ), but there's no question there needs to be some work done in the #3C department.

Lol, funny it isn’t me this time.
Just wait until the avs lose....

sensibleguy do you think the Sens would be interested in a Graves for Tierney trade if the Avs decided he was surplus to requirements?

Graves has had a tough start to this season, and was a healthy scratch, but he is what he is, a stay at home guy good for low 2nd pair minutes. Not quite 2nd pair, but better than 3rd pair.

I think the Sens could use a 18-20 minute LD who can PK, just so they don't need to play Coburn, lol. Graves age is close to Tierney, it could be a good match for what the Sens need, IMO. Colorado got Graves for practically nothing, a very nice pickup.

@csick @Alfie11 @Claesson4Norris

that's all I could think of off the top of my head, lol

Tierney for Graves

Opinions?

From what I saw against Vancouver he's an upgrade over all their current D, albeit two games is a limited sample size. He was scratched for one but the Avs wanted to see what they'd got in Pateryn for one game I think and a lot will depend on their plans for Bo-By.

This is a definite bonus, since the team only had two D worth protecting, imo.

That many? tears of joy Sorry, couldn't resist. I actually like the idea of sending him somewhere he'd be protected as well as he deserves it.

Don't hate it. Don't love it either. The Sens need to get better personel defensively, but they need a guy who can move the puck up ice besides Chabot. Wolanin is capable, but is too sheltered to really be effective (also hurt), and Reilly has puck moving talent but he's a total liability defensively.

Graves would be an improvement in the Coburn/Reilly spot, but I think he would struggle as well.

I’m careful to say it this way, so the Wolanin haters will think it’s Zaitsev, and the Zaitsev haters will think it’s Wolanin, lol

From what I saw Wolanin would be kept, he was the only one who appeared to have a clue what an ice rink was let alone anything else. I exaggerate but it really was that painful to watch!

It's hard to see anybody that wouldn't struggle in the Sens line up atm tbh. I feel for you. On the plus side Graves jumps up in the play pretty well and can move the puck somewhat as well, not a Girard or Makar obviously but he can.

Even more good reason to pull the trigger if he's out long term.

Yup. Bottom six of this really still looks pretty good:

Nichushkin, Tierney, Donskoi
Jost, Compher, O'Connor

Cap gets a little complicated next year though when adding another contract.

Compher/Donskoi likely go to Seattle I would think. so there's more actually coming off than if Graves got chosen.

My hope is that Graves and one of Don or JT are gone next year. Nothing against those guys but would rather spend elsewhere. I guess it's roughly the same position though. Idk, let's chat when every shot doesn't hit the freakng post cuz I'm frustrated right now.

Yeah. That's a deal I would make if I were GM. Wouldn't change too much this season but could be really nice going forward, especially since UND has Sanderson playing the right side now.
