I wouldnt do this trade for the Avs mid season. Grubi is showing he can be a high end starter this season, and if thats sow then why would they be trading for Gibson if he can get the job done.

if he falters in the playoffs etc then sure offseason they can work something out, but I think they avoid trading byram in any deal for Gibson talk

Both deals are pretty good -- you should be able to get a 1st out of CAR in that deal though. I also think ANA would probably be targeting Newhook from COL -- they can pick up a top D prospect in the upcoming draft (LHD heavy).

The upgrade from Grubauer (a top 10 goalie) to Gibson (a top 5 goalie) isn't really worth giving up Byram for.

What is up with Rakell? He is being heavily guarded with a 60% o zone start this season and still low xGFs and SCs.

Think it all depends on whether Grubby tests free agency.

If it were to happen, obviously Byram would be a solid get for the Ducks, but I'd be content with a package that starts with Newhook and Timmins, with something else.

Playing with garbage line mates. 3 pts in the past two games playing with Comtois and Lundestrom though.

I dont think he tests free agency if he gets a fair offer from the Avs...and if he continues his strong season he will get a 6x6 type deal that Markstrom got, so thats just Gibsons deal. At the cost of Byram and newhook and at the same cap hit. Just sign Grubi

I don't disagree with signing Grubby at all. As a Ducks fan, I'm perfectly content to keep Gibby, and think they're better off building around him than subtracting him for an underpay, and then spending the next 10 years trying to find a goalie (Not saying that this is an underpay, just commenting in general). Only way I'd be ok with moving him is if it's an overpay.

oh for sure, you take the kings ransom ( even though goalie trades are historically less value) for Gibson and transition into a soft rebuild as you pivot the next 2-3 years.

Let say that Avs and Ducks do go down this trade convo bc Grubi either walks or blows it in the playoffs.....justus annunen probably would be a guy ducks ask for, avs best goalie prospect.

I've got high hopes for Lukas Dostal. With time being on their side, anything less than a haul for Gibby would be pointless. Ducks have some solid cap space this summer, and *should* be able to fix this team reasonably quickly.

Byram now he is here isn’t getting traded, only 2 guys on the team more untouchable in MacKinnon and Makar. Throw in Grubauer’s play and it’s an easy no from COL.

He is snake bitten but should break out anytime soon, he leads the team in shots by a wide margin, hes made good plays consistently, the issue is shooting percentage, currently less than 3% shootong percentage, his career average is 12% and when on good teams he got 15%+, he has been our best forward, tied with Comtois but for opposite reasons, Comtois has a really good percentage. On Carolina with some good opportunity and ice time with better line mates he would at least be a twenty goal scorer, like worst case scenario, and Id expect that he returns to his 30+ goal pace. Also last i checked he was second to last in the league in Goals below expected with -6, so really he should have like 8 goals which on this team is really good

I appreciate the feedback. His numbers hadnt looked solid, actual or expected. He hasn’t a strong season in 2 years.

Either way the price seems acceptable. A little bit of a risk for ys but could be quite a value get for us.
