Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
The only pettersson to Chicago trade that is even remotely possible. When you see a fanbase trying to move a player like you see PIT fans trying to move Pettersson you have to be worried.
PIT
  1. Zadorov, Nikita [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Pettersson is overpaid, and projects to be a 4-5-6 D on our roster. Why would Chicago trade anything of value, for example Strome, to get another bottom of the lineup D man from PIT? The only trade that makes sense involves a similar guy going to PIT, enter Zadorov. The determining factor in this trade is salary, and Chicago is providing salary relief to PIT in that aspect.

Zad has honestly looked decently lately. He's actually kind of coming along in his development. I would rather just stick with him

I'm just sick of PIT trying to dump Pettersson on us. So I figured I would make this post. ZAD has been playing well, except for his dumb penalties. I would prefer to keepm him rn.

From the outside looking in... I feel like Petterson is the new Maatta in PIT. It's not that he's a bad player. He just isn't what people want him to be for $4M in cap space. He is only 25 years old and it does take Dmen longer to develop, but again...$4M is too much for what he provides.

Pettersson and Strome do have the same amount of 5v5 points on the season. If it wasn't for Strome's PP production he really wouldn't be worth much. I don't think teams are impressed by his production when he played with Kane and Debrincat considering his individual impact without them has been minimal.

On behalf of these Pittsburgh fans that are proposing Pettersson trades, the main reason is not really because they don't like him, it's just that they want to shore up the third line and the team has no real player assets outside of Pettersson. No team would want the Matheson contract (he is actually playing half-decently though) and knowing Hextall's history and his recent comments, it is highly unlikely that the team is going to keep mortgaging future picks for the present like Rutherford did (thank God). Pettersson is quite like Maatta back then, but I personally believe that Pettersson is better. Chicago got lucky because Rutherford was a moron and chose to trade Maatta instead of Johnson. He said that he was given the choice of giving up one of the two and of course due to his relationship with Johnson, he gave up Maatta.

For me personally, there is no point whatsoever in doing this trade. I have no idea what Zadorov will ask for in his next contract and that itself is risky considering he is currently making 3.2 million. Even I will admit that some of the Pettersson proposed trades have been somewhat unreasonable. Everyone is cap constrained right now due to the flat cap and teams will be more hesitant than usual to take up this type of contract.

Devils will happily take him.
Have tons of cap room and probably losing two defensive LHD in Kulikov and Murray this year.

This 100%. He's not bad, but he's also not worth $4 mil. He could quite literally be replaced by any number of $1.5-$2 mil dmen as UFA's, and nobody would notice the difference.

I don't believe the bit about Maatta or Johnson. Good post though.

Its not that we are dumping him but he has been passed by Matheson and is behind Dumo. He is the most expendable asset Pitt has. Especially for our team because we have hardly any futures. It makes sense cape wise and asset management wise to trade MP for cap relief/roster improvements elsewhere instead of paying him 4m for a minor role on the team.

The situation wouldn't be much different in Chicago, and that's why we aren't interested in him, especially if you want a major asset like Strome back.

I dont think they want Strome. I know MP has been linked to Chicago but I`m not sure why. I wouldn`t be opposed to Zadorov but that still doesn`t get them what they want, which is a big physical C or W. Unless Chicago was very high on MP and would give Zadorov and a pick that we could flip to get a forward. I don`t really see any forwards on chicago that fit what Pitt is looking for.

So only way I see this trade with Chicago is if its Zadorov + a pick or if it`s straight up for a 2nd or two 3rds that they can use to flip to get their forward target.

Pens won’t dump him for free. We’d need a top 9 forward back

Palmieri and Gusev are your obvious options.
Maybe Andreas Johnsson.
Or take a 'hasn't fit in yet' prospect type like Boqvist or Merkley.

this is why we haven't traded him.

Honestly, teams who weaken their blueline on playoff runs regret it. Penguins won't move him till next off season, when they need the cap space.
