My thoughts on Dobson for Tarasenko

Description
I hate the idea of it.

BUT, here’s how I’d make it work if it HAS to happen.

To be clear: I’m making this post to show why it won’t happen. The Isles take on the following risks:

-Losing Dobson, an integral part of their future Top 4
-Tarasenko’s injury history keeping him from producing.
-Tarasenko’s contract giving the Isles yet another Ladd.

This trade is an attempt to solve all this, but I’d doubt all sides here agree to it.

I hate this as an Isles fan. I wouldn’t trade Dobson for VT straight up with 50% retained. The only way I would consider it is if Dunn comes back too. No way Blue’s take on Ladd either.

Eberle and a 2nd make sense to me for VT. If the Isles want to make the salary work they will need to add picks/prospects to have retainage/bad contracts go the other way.

Trading a future #1 defenseman for damaged goods? This is just as bad as Milburys trades - Belmont will be empty within a few years if this trade went down.

I agree with literally all of this. This was the point of the post. It would be an awful idea even if St Louis accepted, and I doubt they would.

The blues would probably be thrilled if Seattle took VT full cap hit for free, I think the blues would take this package and run.

Why would they pass 🤔

The $ clogs their cap for 2 years while they're not contending (the real $ issue is the schenn faulk deals) and they get two dynamic young assets back

If they did this ^ and kept dunn that'd be half their future D core alone and a damn good one at that

They are not in a position to retain at least 3M AND take Ladd. And who says they can't contend? That's the stated intention.
