I wouldn’t say this is the worst trade in Oilers history when they traded away Wayne Gretzky.

its not that bad of a trade he still has game left will play about 20 mins a night compared to jones who would play 10 mins..
a 3rd rounder has like a 10-15% chance of turning into an NHL player.

So yes his cap hit is about 1-1.5 mill to much and wish they had retained on it. but its not the end of the world at all.

worst trade is a stretch. No matter how bad keith is he can’t possibly be worse than 7 games of andreas athanasiou for gagner (who was better than him alone) plus two 2nds. And of course hall for larsson, eberle trade, strome trade, talbot trade, and I don’t think you can ever really justify trading gretzky even if you did win another cup afterwards. Also the marino, schultz, petry, and petrovic trades, and the neal trade has turned out pretty bad as well. All told this probably doesn’t crack the top 5 worst oilers trades if that makes you feel better

This doesn't even crack the top 5... remember we used to have Chia as a GM. This move was very Chia-esque though. I'm just really having a hard time understanding how Chicago so grossly won this trade when they had no leverage.

Gretzky wasn't so much traded as he was sold. The big get wasn't so much the players we got back but the $15mil cash Pocklington got.

Not having Chicago retain salary is absolutey akin to giving away a legit top4 D or top6 forward.

All this shows me is that Ken Holland has no hope of acquiring talent by trade otherwise there was Vegas Knights players available like Reilly Smith, TB players like Alex Killorn. Making this trade of cap space waste is a big tell that Holland isnt in on any significant forward that would have needed Keith's cap space.

Worst trade so far , Holland is there for awhile, he's going nowhere until he has completely devastated the organization (see Detroit Red Wings)

Brutal. Absolutely brutal. I can't believe this boys club in the league. I wonder if he still thinks the fax machine is working next door every time he tries to send Dale Tallon some ideas.

Yeah, I noted a few from memory then hopped on nhl trade tracker and all but gretzky were on the first two pages lol. It’s literally pretty much every trade that isn’t simply a minor league swap, and even then it can backfire (marino for a 6th lol)

Maybe it's the fax machine holding up the Kieth deal? He probably faxed in his final offer

I'll make it worse - oil acquire Kieth protect him lose Klefbom to Seattle and he puts up a career year while Keith toils at 2nd pair in Edmonton - then Seattle squeeks into the playoffs and puts the oil on the golf course in 4 games with Klefbom getting the series goal

Cant wait for Holland to sign Luke Glendening long term as a UFA. Problems solved when you have a 4th liner faceoff man. Intangibles have been met. Just need Scott Bowman to come into the room and give a few speeches. The Cup is going back to Edmonton, for sure!
