Personally I'd make that trade if I was the Pens. As far as value goes I think it's fair, but there are two issues:

      1) The Pens have $121,000 in free space.
      2) Hextall has been very vocal to the media that he's not moving the Pens 1st or 2nds anymore. He did state however that he'd POSSIBLY move a prospect in a really good deal, which I'm not sure if this counts, but possibly.

So you're saying Buffalo has been trying to win the last 7 or 8 years?

We're not giving you an excellent 1st in a super deep draft for Pickles' cap relief. EZ No.

I mean, even before you get the part where the Sharks give up their own chance at Wright, you run into the fact that you'd have to convince Pickles to waive his full NMC to go to Buffalo. Not happening.

One of many completely nonsensical sharks trades on this website. "you should be rebuilding your team is awful" always the reasoning for making these hideous transactions. I feel like I only come here to say 'no' 15 times a day.

      Right!?!?

I've literally considered writing up something I could just c/p to explain why Eichel to the Sharks is a terrible move, since it keeps coming up and it's just so ludicrously bad.

Eichel isn’t fetching that return PRE injury

That’s at least 5 first rounders (21-23 picks, Krebs, Tuch are all first round equivalents), McNabb might even be able to get a late first at the deadline if some team gets desperate. Big time overpay.

I’d assume the olofsson deal is at the TDL when the pens may have more cap flexibility. And I’d say that’s fair and reasonable. Pens probably accept it.

Pettersson + 3rd or 2nd for Olofsson is more fair. Pens dont have the cap space for Olofsson if it was just a pick

The Sabres are way ahead of you. except Eichel won't be traded until next off-season at the earliest in fact he could spend the next five seasons here

With the sabres “winning” the 21 lottery, can’t they not get both now? Unless one doesn’t go #1 and I mean come on

Nope, the rules about moving up in the lottery and picking 1st overall don't kick in until the 2022 draft - so theoretically the Sabres could pick 1OA three years running.

Not sure if true, i believe if you finish in 32nd place and "win" the lottery, it doesnt count as you did not move up.

Nah, it's two separate rules, both starting with the upcoming 2022 draft.

      1. No team can move up more than 10 spots in the draft lottery
      2. No team can draft 1st OA more than twice in a 5 year period.

They might as well have called them the Rangers rule and the Oilers rule, cos we all know what prompted them!

I tried looking it up, pretty sure i had it right. No team can "win" a draft lottery more than twice in a 5 year period. If you finish dead last and pick first, you didnt "win" anything, you just got to pick where the team that finished last would pick without the lottery. The sabres are gonna get crushed this year, but the new gm has been at least average since he got the job (which is already worlds better than the guy he replaced), so heres hoping the sabres arent in desperate need of lottery help that much longer.

That's not how it works though. If you finish dead last in the season overall you're not guaranteed anything, you're just given the best odds of winning - it used to be 18.5%, but I have no idea how it breaks down with the new restrictions on movement and the addition of Seattle into the mix. Whoever gets that 1st OA slot has won, regardless of where they fall in that ranking of the ten worst teams.

Either way, I hope the Sabres aren't in dire need of high draft picks for too much longer - I have friends who are Sabres fans and y'all have suffered more than enough.
