Both teams decline

The Canadiens could just keep Weber on LTIR and not take on Troubas contract

Kings aren't trading Turcotte for scraps. Miller for Turcotte trade could work, but not this

Kings are only gonna move Turcotte if they get an offer involving a top pairing, young left handed defenceman in return. Otherwise he's a likely candidate to move to the wing.

The guy that's likely the odd man out is Vilardi.

The only justification for trading a prime center prospect like Turcotte is to get a ready-for-prime-time LD like K'Andre Miller or Zach Jones. Los Angeles declines. And as your esteemed colleague @RagsandBluesfan points out, LA is under no pressure to move Quick's contract.

Would you do Turcotte for Jones?

Habs could accept if you take 1.5 million retention on Trouba!

I don't think so -- forwards have intrinsically more value than defensemen, particularly young ones, and Turcotte was drafted very high and is considered our second-best prospect.

Why exactly can't LA play some of their Cs as wingers? They would be totally fine long term if they just shift Turcotte to LW and Vilardi to RW.

I think LA should look to turning that C depth to address another need, but but they don't need to. They're in a very strong position as negotiations go, and they definitely won't move any of them without getting comparable value in return. That deal isn't good enough imo.

1st line of the future for LA:

Turcotte-Byfield-Kaliyev

In no way is Turcotte "the odd man out."

Turcotte for Miller + 2nd
or
Miller for Kupari + 2nd

I could see one of those trades working. Outside of that, there's no trades to be made between LAK and NYR.
