Didn't realize.
I think hughes realizes we could get in the playoffs next year, and I don't disagree. Imagine:

Forsberg / Gaudreau - Suzuki - Caufield
Drouin - Wright / Trocheck - Anderson
Hoffman - Dvorak - Jarnkrok / Lehkonen
??

Ghost - Letang
Eddy - Petry
Romanov - Savard

Price / Fleury - Montembeault / Vanecek / Georgiev

That could contend

is he going out in fa

If you're talking about ghost, he has another year left on his contract after this year

They could make a playoffs push but I don't think they should.. The Atlantic and the East in general is very strong. I'd rather keep it quiet for a few years, fill up the prospect pool with high picks, and then contend. They've never done that and now is the perfect time to.

Forsberg probably will test market unless he gets traded to LA.
Gaudreau will test the market and MSL was his idol.

Carolina doesn't need Trocheck k and doesn't have the cap for him.

Jarnkrok will test.

Letang is the least possible one, but hughes was his agent, and might wanna play for hometown team.

Flower probably won't, but I'm betting on a price return anyway.

Another player to mention for 2C, is Bergeron. Also hughes was his agent, and he might wanna play in hometown. Highly unlikely tho.

I think we'll only end up seeing a chiarot trade + the minor ones tbh at this deadline

Exactly, we’ve half-assed rebuilt and retooled so a good, well laid plan to make sure that when we’re ready to contend, we’ll have a great team can’t hurt

If we go to build a team we need to understand the model.

Anderson Suzuki Caufield fit the model so let's replicate that :

Gaudreau - Wright - Kravtsov

Then we can build our bottom like this

Drouin Evans Pittlick
Ratcliffe Poehling Gallagher
Byron

Edmundson Barrie
Romanov Ristolainen
Ghule Savard
Harris Pysyk

Price or Fleury if Pricey is out
Allen

So we trade Hoffman for Barrie
Petry + Norlinder for Ristolainen and Ratcliffe
Lehkonen + Kulak for Kravtsov + pick
Armia vs Pysyk + pick

More speed more size more transition. Could this work ?

That team comes nowhere near the playoffs.

Gallagher should be traded if he's going to be on the 4th line.

Edmundson/Barrie/Ristolainen/Savards shouldn't be on the team.

If we trade Petry + Norlinder for Ristolainen + Ratcliffe, I'm going to become a Leafs fan

it is not the best d but if Price is back this could help to push them ... and we still can sign few d. the question is more : is that forward corp the model we wish to build?

I would die if we did that Philly trade. that defence is not good enough, the right side sucks and we don’t have a top pair LD, I have doubts Kravstov will become more than a 3rd liner, also not sure why Evans is over Poehling and we’re paying Gally 6.5 to be on the 4th

I disagree here, this isn't NHL 22 where the only thing that matters to players is $$

Look at Toronto with Spezza + Bunting, Both took discounts to play for Toronto. It's not like Montreal is a dead hockey market with no history. There are going to be players that will take a discount to play here. Obviously you have to take into account relationships and history, but this isn't Hughes or Gorton's team so they can at least do it this year

Discounts are nice, but they’re still uncommon and you can’t count on them. How many UFAs has Montréal got a discount on in recent years? The only one I can think of is David Savard, and he only did that after a run to the finals and he’s still overpaid.

Sure some people would like playing here, but a tonne of people wouldn’t because of how good the team is, taxes, amount of pressure, and all of the other Canadian detractors for NHLers. So we’re basically down to a fraction of Québécois NHLers who would take discounts to go to Montréal, which certainly isn’t something you should be betting on.

It's hard to tell because unless there's concrete proof, we don't know if a UFA took less to play here or not. Now that we've got Gorton as one of our GM's (Player Agent that knows how to create relationships with players) and Martin St.Louis as coach (Legend), I think we are starting to create that atmosphere that players want to be part of. Gorton mentioned in his first press conference that he knows how he can create loopholes around the taxes that will get the players more money, so that shouldn't be a major concern.

No way he's actually thinking Laurent Dauphin is the next Danault.

I'll stand on my opinion that he becomes a poor man Desharnais. Decent 3C

This is in the realm of possibility. I think he's a strong candidate for a regular spot next season, but the Danault comparison is just hilarious.

It's possible.
Gaudreau MSL was Johnny's fave player.
Bergeron was agent under hughes,
Habs are in the rumors for ghost and chych
Letang wants to play here, and Hughes was his agent.
Fleury might wanna play his last 2 years in his hometown province.
It's not as far fetched as you think.

Uhhhh, do we have the cap space/assets for that, holy cow, and why would Domi or Kk come back, Kadri probably hates us too. And us Habs fans wonder why we’re not taken seriously
