Montreal Canadiens rebuild

Created by: seanross
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 8, 2021
Published: Nov. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The year is over, Montreal finished 3rd last in the league and they got the 4th overall selection.
Draft goes like this: Wright, Miro, Lambert. Lets see who the habs should draft but before that, the trade deadline.
With the 4th overal selection, habs have a choice of:
Nemec - RHD offensive D (good for transition D to Off
Savoie- Speedy center (add speed and playmaking)
Geekie - Big strong C (add clutch and offensive with size)
Kemmel - Big finish winger (good hands and can score)

For me if he's there at 4 Savoie is the pick. Savoie is a barzal type of player with excellent speed and a good shot. His playmaking is also very good.

I don't see Chiarot getting a 1st. While there is some precedent with Savard I think that was more of a unique move by Tampa, instead of a trendsetter. Only time will tell, but I'm not convinced a gm would give up that much for him.

Lehkonen probably could get a litlte more than 3rd (+ a mid/low level prospect) bc hes an RFA with 1 more year left of team control, but value isnt that far off

The Blues, Caps and Isles don't even reply to your offers. They just walk off shaking their heads. Edmonton and Vancouver have no cap for these moves. Avs might accept, though, so there's that.

How is a Contender being Cash strapped and selling their Pick to acquire a player at a Reduced cap unique?

I can name it happening every TDL
Savard they Retained so he got more despite being a lesser player then Chiarot
Issue here is buddy didnt RS 50% on his trade to make it realistic

Aatu Raty had 1 ranking top 10 that was it
It was NHL's site so that means they're usually the farthest off

No one reads the Draft Reports and takes them serious
They're the ones that booked Jones over Mckinnon most notably pushing that narrative

This is a very confusing response to me. Raty before the
2020-21 season was pretty much the consensus 1OA pick. Then he had a terrible season and dropped to 52. Thats what i meant about raty, and it seems like what may very well happen with lambert. Now i very highly doubt lambert drops that much but i dont think he goes top 5 at all.

Goaltending remains a concern for the Oilers but, despite a couple of shaky games, the stats suggest that Mikko Koskinen is a vastly superior goaltender to Jake Allen so far this season. In fact, Allen's current numbers are very similar to the numbers Koskinen put up during his worst performance in an Oiler uniform. What's more, Koskinen's current contract expires at the end of this season, and Allen remains under contract for 2022-23. Right now, it seems unfathomable that Ken Holland would agree to this deal with Marc Bergevin.

Chiarot might be of interest to Holland, but he has proven unwilling to pay 1st round picks for pending UFAs. Paquette or Lehkonen might be of interest as well.

Toffoli went for a 2nd and a prospect when he was younger and the game after he got a hattrick, I dont think that he would fetch anything different

If Vancouver trades another 1st it will be for a RD, they are pretty set on their top two lines.

I'll provide Proof
You're Reference NHL submitted rankings before the season or EA games roster im not sure

Go to the bottom of the link and there's the submitted rankings posted for that Draft.

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/467384/aatu-raty

Only Links i found dumb enough to rank Aatu top 10 was ESPN ranking him #2 pre season and NHL ranking him #10 pre season
Then a month later those same sources ranking him 14th -19th.
Every Draft has one from europe , my favorite was always Ville Heinola ranked #4 OA by the same exact sources listed above.
Literally Everyone else had Heinola in the late 1st early 2nd but NHL.com and ESPN

Why ?
The league likes good press and Heinola was getting it as he was one of many stars in a packed WJ-U18 and WJ-U20 campionship teams
All their profiles rose largely on the back of Kakko, Hepponiemi , Kupari ,and Lukkonen
Their D was a ton of capable all around guys Heinola,Honka ,Jokiharu, and Vaakainen among others

20 years back These pre season rankings wouldnt have changed much from then to the Draft.
Its also why there were more 1st round busts. Now even really good players with question marks over their heads are left for 2nd and 3rd.
