I guess Ill start us off for the Trade Bait so heres my "starter" board, yall can throw it out or add on.
1) Tomas Hertl
Despite the Sharks unexpected, bounce back season - San Jose is far from the Cup, and not exactly locked for the playoffs. They are 1 point away from the second wild card but other teams hold games in hand and the team has been too inconsistent. Hertl wants, meaningful hockey, which just is not in the Sharks hand of cards right now.
Hertl is in the drivers seat tho, he will hit the market if he wont resign.. and there are not many days left for a deal to get done. After Hertls Hat-Trick OT win and star of the week honors - he continues to prove he is a high end asset for any team and at 2.812 million cap hit (with 50% retention), cup contenders likely are drooling for the center to hit the market. Hertl isnt one because I am a Sharks fan, he is the best asset if he hits the market currently.
2) Claude Giroux
Philly is toast, and Giroux should leave. Plain and simple, in bold,
Giroux should be traded. He would return a handful of assets and Giroux is most likely a rental who will test the market - but more obvious is that he wants a shot at the Cup. With retention a contender adds a threat in Giroux that should not be overlooked. Maybe he returns to Philly in UFA, maybe he resigns with his "new team" or tests the waters who knows, but what Philly needs to do is cut loose and start doing something meaningful and bringing in a haul for Giroux. He's done everything he can for that team, give him a shot somewhere meaningful.
3) Hot Dog Kessel
Speaking of assets that contenders are going to desire with retention, Kessel is another player primed for a Cup run. Kessel is playing solid, and will no doubt be traded. Theres not much to talk about with Phil the Thrill here. He is a great middle six winger that any contender should consider adding if they weak on the wing. The Coyotes are selling, unlike discussing Hertl and SJ; Kessel leaving the desert should be a done deal.
4) Mark Giordano
Mark Giordano will be the Krakens first and shortest tenured captain. There is no reason why Giordano should stay in Seattle. Their joke of a GM butchered the expansion draft and Seattle has a bleak future even with Beniers coming soon. At 38, there isn't a shred of doubt Mark Giordano wants to play meaningful hockey and have a shot at the Cup. Seattle should get some good assets for the D man who is primed to push a contender deep.
5) John Klingberg
Klingberg is not a sure fire trade, hes worth a lot and Dallas wont just ship him away for nothing. And Klingberg wants big bucks. But hey, this guy has arguably the highest ceiling out of any of players here. Klingberg is a stud D man who is not going to be cheap but it will be interesting to see who bites on it. Dallas should sell John imo, he will return a basket of gifts for a couple stars fans lol
